s/o photographers...

When MH go back to Maui in April, we were thinking of doing a photo shoot with our wedding photographer while were were there.  And the reason we are doing this is because she previously sent me an email stating she would hook us up for a photo shoot the next time we were in Maui.  I'm not sure if this is a free session or what Indifferent  I'm not sure how to interpret the "hook up" part...

So, my question to you ladies is...do you tip the photographer in addition to the session costs & actual prints?  If so, how much and do you give the tip at the time of your session?

Re: s/o photographers...

  • I've never tipped our photogs...curious to see if others do.
  • We didn't tip our photographer, either.
  • We didn't because he owns his own company. If he was part of a stable of photogs at a bigger company, we probably would have. Those were the guidelines I'd read about tipping vendors before the wedding. Smile

    Perfect!  This makes sense!

    Thank you ladies :)

  • I tipped mine. She totally went above and beyond.
  • We did an engagement shoot while on a trip to Seattle and tipped our photographer (just rounded up to he nearest 100).  Our original photographer canceled the morning of our shoot, and this photographer filled in on short notice so we could e-pics in before we left.  She was really easy to work with, customized a package for us based on what we had worked out with our original photographer, and stayed with us an extra hour.

We also did an engagement shoot while on a trip to Vegas (I love pictures and traveling...can you tell?).  We didn't tip this photographer since he didn't really go above and beyond.

We didn't tip our photographer at the wedding, but we are doing a TTD shoot with her next month...not sure if I should tip her then or if it's not really necessary (she threw in the TTD session free for us)....

Ditto, especially considering the high price we were already paying. (But we do sometimes tip the self-employed yard guy or cleaning lady, since their rates are so reasonable.)

For this trip, if it turns out that the photographer cuts you a huge deal, I would surely tip.  If you end up paying a fair price, I don't think there is a need if it's her own business.
