BR: Apt. tomorrow, excited and nervous

I have my pre-natal physical apt. tomorrow and we'll also get to (finally!) hear the heartbeat!  I'm nervous and excited about it.... I hope the heartbeat is strong and normal and that I really do have a human being inside me :)  I've been struggling with "is this real" since the beginning so hopefully tomorrow will be a weight lifted off my shoulders a bit.  Was anyone else nervous?  I just hope everything is okay.  Our first U/S won't be until around 18-20 weeks (I think), which still feels like a lifetime away.

Re: BR: Apt. tomorrow, excited and nervous

  • I get nervous before every single appointment!  I think that's normal.  Even though I've had 2 ultrasounds already and have heard the heartbeat multiple times (MH sometime brings a doppler home from work and we listen), I still get nervous that something's wrong.  And it didn't feel real to me until just this past weekend when I FINALLY felt the baby moving!

Don't get worried if they can't find the heartbeat right away.  At 13 weeks they should be able to, but at 12 they had trouble finding ours.  I got very nervous, but then my OB got out the ultrasound, and there it was!  She said sometimes it can be hard to hear at that stage, but much easier to see.  My LO is at the very back of my uterus, and I have, um, a little padding to get through.....  Embarrassed  It was cool, though, since I got a bonus ultrasound out of it (after 2 minutes of panic!).  Now you can hear it just fine, though.

Anyway, good luck tomorrow.  I'm sure everything will be wonderful!

Tara, I felt this way my entire PG, even right before I was about to deliver LOL  the idea of a little being growing inside me was hard for me to wrap my head around! :) and it's totally normal to feel nervous about things... don't freak out if it takes them a while to find the hb... sometimes the baby's position can make it difficult. but I hope your visit goes well - it is amazing to hear that little hb!! :)

  • i can't share anything but just wanna say goodluck!!! very exciting to finally hear the baby's heartbeat :).
  • woo hoo!  Everything will be great Tara!  And nervous!?  Yep!  I am STILL nervous, just in a different way now that she's an outside baby.  Mother's lot, I suppose.  I found that while pregnant positive visualization and meditation helped my worries immensely!
  • How exciting!  It'll be great.  Is Ian going with you?

Heh, hon, I STILL feel nervous! Even though I know everything is fine...even though I feel them kick and move all the time...even though I've had multiple ultrasounds and heard their hbs on the doppler with my OBGYN more times than I can count...I still feel nervous! There's always a split second where I think to myself, "OMG...what if they can't find the heartbeat...what if something is wrong...whatifwhatifwhatif..." And then I tell myself to calm down, and everything is fine. Smile

As a few other people have said, don't freak out if they can't find the hb right away. Sometimes the way the baby is positioned can make it difficult - hell, at my last doctor's appointment, it took him several minutes to get a good reading of the second baby's heartbeat (at 29 weeks!) simply because the little guy was all turned around and hiding behind his brother (which I know isn't an issue for you, but the point is that even if everything is fine, sometimes babies can still make things difficult!).

It's so incredible to hear that little heartbeat though - you're going to love it!

  • Wow, how exciting, Tara!  I can't offer any advice, but hope your appointment goes well!  Smile
  • Yup, I was definitely nervous for many appointments and only recently did I become more relaxed, probably because I can feel the baby moving ALL the time now, whereas before, I definitely felt surreal about it (like "am I *really* pg??"). Don't worry though, pretty soon, you'll get used to it all! I'm excited for you! It's super exciting to hear the heartbeat every time, especially the first time =)

  • Good luck & congratulations! I'm also one who is always nervous. Know that this doesn't mean anything. Either do all the crazy dreams you'll probably start having in a few months!
  • GL!  I was nervous for most of the first and second trimester visits.  Now I feel pretty confident, but of course, I still find things to worry about... especially for delivery day!  :)
