I was admitted on the 17th at 630 pm.
By 730 am Cervadil was placed and I was in for a 12 hour haul. Cervadil is a gel that they insert to get you to soften and dilate. I would be evaluated the next morning and if I was dilated I would started pitocin. That time drug on all night long and it was very uncomfortable to have that gel placed. The nurse evaluated me and I was not dilated at all. She contacted my OB who wanted to use cytotec which is a pill that is placed in there. This was also extremely painful along with the catheter but my nurse had said most patients never feel what i did. I had heard horror stories about this pill so I was less then thrilled but said okay lets just do this. At the same time I had an epi placed because I have a difficult time being checked internally due to pain. The dr ended up placing it twice because I could feel pressure on the left side and not on the right. But in all honesty the local for it was worse then the Epi.
My bp started dropping and dropping and I felt so sick because of that so they administered some Epinephren (sp?) I started sweating really bad and my nurse got very nervous because that?s not a good sign in response to the Epi. So I was given another iv med which I cant remember what it was. Nick was awesome the whole time and was getting so worried because I looked so bad and felt the same way. Induction was just not made for me! After the cytotec was in for 4 hours my Ob came in and checked me and zero difference once again. She said I could either get a c-section or continue to go through induction but my ob felt that my body would keep resisting and she was concerned as I had been there for over 24 hours and meanwhile my amniotic fluids were already too low. So we said lets do it and within 30 minutes Nolan had arrived. I ended up on a heavier medication in the OR because I could feel things with the EPI. At one point they asked my pain level after he was out and it was at like a 10 and the anesthesiologist (sp?) came down to give me another medication that was pretty scary.
The best part was when nick came in and held my hand and just kept smiling at me through the mask. Then I heard my Ob say He has red hair and he looks exactly like Nick!! Nick stood up and looked over the drape and said ?This is so amazing? and I started balling and I had not even seen him yet. Nick walked away to watch him be measured and do the apgar and came over next to me and I kept crying the whole time. His cry was so quiet and low which was the opposite of what I expected it to be. They finished me up and I met them in recovery where within an hour they had me turning over which was not fun!
Recovery is slow going but I walked and did whatever they asked me to do while in there and nick just kept saying how proud of me he was for doing all of that and it was just something I will never forget and worth every anxiety and fear and I was so glad the anxiety came to an end!
Re: Nolans Birth story-could be TMI
Thank you for sharing. It sucks that you had to go through all of that but in the end you received the greatest reward. Like everyone else has said, continue to take it easy.
Seriously, I'd like these OBs to give me the names of women that induction has worked for because it sure seems NOT to have worked for every woman I've ever known be induced.
So glad you guys are all doing well and hope your recovery goes well so you can start enjoying the little guy more!
What an experience you had! So glad you're home and taking the recovery slowly.
Paula - I know what you mean about the induction not working for so many people...but actually Heather had both her boys induced and didn't end up in a c-section.

Thank you for sharing, I'm sorry it was so rough, but very happy you and the little one are both healthy. It sounds like Nick did his job very well!
successful induction - I was induced twice - first w/ complications, second without - have to say though both time the epidural did little to nothing to help w/ the pain and they had to inject me w/ ephidrin 4 times (sp) for low blood pressure - no fun, I'm sorry you had to have that stacy, I know how much that sucks, I didn't react very well to it either and my thigh looked like someone had beaten me with a baseball bat after.
