Since it is Friday and the coffee just kicked in .... let me float this idea.
Instead of having the Presidential candidates pick their VPs, the American people get to vote on who they'd like to see as the VP.
Just like the primaries .... all VP candidates submit their names after the candidate is chosen .... and we get to vote.
The top two vote-getters go to convention and are selected there.
This way when the candidates claim they can work with anyone -- we can test them on that.
I know it is a total dream scenario -- but could end up being a heck of a good time.

Re: A Separate VP election?
Could you imagine if it was still like that?!
I like your idea shoshie!
Yes, that's how it used to be.
I kind of like the idea of a separate VP election. It would kinda suck if POTUS and VP hated each other though.
I was going to say the same thing. Pretty sure it didnt work too effectively though
Pretty sure Obama is kicking himself for not picking Hillary so Shoshie's idea would have benefited your team.
McCain/Obama '08!
Isn't that how some European countries do it too... Germany maybe?
LOL
I would like to add my shoe to that kick session.
TERRIBLE IDEA. She would've torpedoed any shot he had. I am a firm believer she would never in a million years have won the general election at the top of the ticket. MAYBE 2016 if enough of her haters die off and enough new people who were in diapers during the 1st Clinton administration register to vote.

I can understand your need to daydream, shosh ;-)
I really do think it works best when the two work well together personally. Not only for governing, but for campaigning. I think Kerry picked Edwards for political reasons, against his personal instincts, and I think it was part of what lost him the election.
:::kicks shoe:::
Personally, I would have been a LOT more happy about voting if Clinton was on the ticket as veep. I wouldn't be kicking anyone or anything. I am kicking things now!
I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that the RNC & DNC can choose a VP candidate just as they vote for the Pres. candidate. However, it has been tradition for the Pres candidate to choose his VP.
Wait a minute...let me get this straight...you want two elections instead of one??? Are you sure that was coffee you had???
Maybe it was a puffy
?
