DH decided he wants to have like an open house type party to show off the house. Lots of friends have been asking when we are having a housewarming. So we decided to have one on March 27th. I just ordered invites off vistaprint but I'm not sure what to have far as menu wise and booze. We are inviting about 30-40 people. Any suggestions...
Re: Help me plan a party.
You might have to wait til Agent gets motoring for that!
Finger foods are always a hit.
Are you looking for more healthy stuff or a mix or a meal?
ahhhhhhh right up my alley
I say pick a theme and run with it. We did mexican, because we live in AZ and its easy!
We had about 60 people come. I served
Drinks: Sangria (It was a HUGE hit), we had a poney keg, Bottled water, And those Izzy sparkling juice drinks
Food: Chips with Salsa and Gaucamole, Fruit kabobs, Margarita Cupcakes (with paper umbrellas in them) And then the big ticket food item...I did a build your own taco station. I wanted something that would be easy and would stay for that many hours since it was an open house. So I was able to load up the crock pot with taco meat and it stayed warm, and then I just put out small amounts of taco fixings and just refilled them as they dwindelled.
So you could do the same with an Italian theme. Maybe do build your own meatball sammi's and do a crock pot full of meatballs, have hoagies, extra tom sauce, black olives, onionc, banana peppers, then for other apps. maybe bruchetta, tomato slices with fresh mozerella and a basil leaf on top and then maybe tiramasu cupcakes?
I didnt do any real decoration since people were coming to see the house, I didnt want to cover stuff up with decor.
Also I staged the food to keep the crowd moving. I had tacos and sangria in the kitchen, the fruit, cupcakes and chips in the dining room, and the keg outside. That way it kept people moving around instead of staying all in one spot
Wow! now I want to have a party!
Maybe this summer when we can have folks outside-not a big house...
I ususally stick with beer and wine and some appetizer stuff - chips and salsa. Last party, my husband made a really good bean dip that was very popular. Oh and I like to put out a veggie platter too.
Thanks everyone!
Agent - I really like the theme idea. I think I will give that a whirl. I'm sure I will have some more questions as I get the creative juices flowing.
No problemo
Also, we received a ton of gifts. Mostly bottles of wine. About 75% of the people just walked in and handed the bottle to DH or myself, so after the party was over I couldnt remember who gave what (if it didnt have a tag or card) So maybe keep a secret note book stashed somewhere that you can slip to and write things down that get handed to you. It will make writting thank you notes easier
Thanks for the heads up. That's a good idea. I'm really hoping no one will bring any gifts but I also know people don't like to come empty handed.
