Where did you get your coffee table?

We just bought a new sofa and chair over the weekend and now need a new coffee table and a couple of end tables for the living room. I'm a bit sticker shocked with the little investigating I've done into coffee tables. Where did you get your coffee table and what do you think is a decent price for a coffee table. I obviously want something nice, but we put our feet up on it and we're going to have kids (plus the dog) so it's probably going to be beat up on.

TIA!

Re: Where did you get your coffee table?

  • I bought an espresso leather storage ottoman off of eBay - we're feet-proppers w/ 2 big dogs - one of which likes to nap between the couch & ottoman under our feet and scrape her nails along the ottoman when she stretches out. It has no nail marks on it whatsoever and is wearing incredibly well. (It's also almost directly under a skylight and hasn't faded at all.)

We paid @$160 and we've had it just over a year. Leather was a good choice for us.

  • We bought ours at VCF.  Although we went in there two weeks ago to look for bedroom furniture and can say I may never go back in there.  We got our bedroom furniture at Furniture Fare and our kitchen table at havertys.  They were both resonably priced but since we weren't looking for coffee tables I can't say much abt those but its worth a shot to look!

  • We got this one at Furniture Fair last summer.

So far so good in terms of quality and we've gotten numerous compliments on the style.  We bought the matching end table and console table, too.  I feel like we got it a bit cheaper during a special sale.

  • We bought a large square leather ottoman at Pottery Barn outlet for our family room.  It's great for kids and pets- easy to clean and soft endges. We put a large tray on top from Z Gallerie so you can put your glass down and your feet up. We got our living room coffee and end tables at American Freight at 747 and Mulhauser. Very good prices.  I also jsut went to the Home Goods in Rookwood and noticed their clearance section in furniture is stocked! I am planning to go back for a few things.  None of our furniture put us in the poor house and all is quite nice. GL!
  • We actually have a very large ottoman that matches our sectional and chair in our living room. We then put a very large pottery barn tray on top of it. It's multi-functional and we get lots of compliments on it.

It's 24 inches by 24 inches. I PIP'd a picture of the tray, but the ottoman our tray is on, is MUCH larger.

  • I have a Misson style table I bought at Meijer about 9 years ago.  It's real wood and was under $100.  I didn't want laminate or particle board yet I didn't want to spend much!  The finish is about gone on the top but we use it more like a foot rest than a coffee table.  Some of Target's furniture are knock offs of Pottery Barn so I'd look there.

  • I wanted very simple end tables for both our family room and formal living room.  I ended up ordering them all from Pottery Barn.  They are a little more than I wanted to spend, but they are very simple and timeless.  I hope to have them forever!
  • We got ours at Ashley Furniture about 4years ago. I cant really recommend our table because its all glass and won't be good around kids. We are planning on getting an ottoman when we finally have our family.

  • Verbarg's Outlet (overstock, scratch and dent, and items that are being discontinued, but can still be ordered) on 125 in Amelia.

  • Ashley Furniture.  It's an oversized coffee table that doubles as storage and 3 matching end tables for something like $300.  The storage coffee table was essential for us since we were in a 2 bdrm apt with 2 little kids.  Still looks "decent" but it's really hard to keep furniture looking nice when you have small kids.....

We bought it about 4.5 years ago.

  • We got our at the brass armadillo. it is closed now, but i think most of the vendors moved to the fairfield antique mall. or something like that. I can't remember what we paid, but i love it....yes, I put my feet up on it.
