name change drama! rant/vent
UGH excuse me while I rant for a minute!
I went to the SS office to change my name in mid march. They told me I needed to wait until I had my green card before I could do it.
So I went back either at the end of May or early June, when i got my green card.
When I still hadn't received it, I called the 1800 # back in Aug/Sept. They said it was in process and it was ok for me to work with my married name on the tax forms. They said because it was international, it could take longer.
Ok so fast forward to this weekend. DH was finishing up our taxes. He sent them through E-file. He got an email saying the name doesn't match the record on file.
I call the 1800# for SS yesterday and find out that there is no record of a name change pending. How did it disappear, when I was told back in the fall that it was in progress, and now that it never was.
I have today off, since I have my thyroid biopsy at 11. I need to be at the hospital by 10:30. SS office opens at 9, we are going to be there by 830 so I can be (hopefully) the first one in line.
DH is pissed and wants to throw a fit. I just want them to put a rush on it since we need it changed so I can file the taxes.

I went to the office and they had records showing I was there June 8th. They said the problem is that my green card has my middle initial only, while all my other documents have my full middle name! They made copies of all my documentation to send to homeland security to prove I am who I say I am. When homeland security verifies that then they will issue me the new card. Could be as little as 2 weeks, could be up to 6 weeks so looks like we are filing taxes separately this year just to be sure we get some $ back sooner.
As for the biopsy, it went well. My neck is a little tender, but nothing bad. Should have the results in a few days.
I hate the government sometimes!
