Avoiding Period on Vacation

I am going on vacation in about three months and do not want to have my period while on it.  According to my schedule, my period will fall smack dab in the middle of my vacation.

I am NOT on birth control pills and was wondering if I should start taking them now or a week or two before the vacation to avoid my period.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: Avoiding Period on Vacation

  • You can take the pill back to back packs or get on the kind where you only get your period  3 or 4 times a year. I would start them soon so you know if you feel Ok on them.
  • It usually takes a few months of being on BCP's to get your cycle regulated.  I think its a 50/50 chance that you will be able to control when your period arrives if you start BCP's this month.
  • yes..start taking them now to regulate your cycle..i did this in high school for prom 10 yrs ago, lol...AND for my wedding last june..i was going to be on my period for my wedding UGH....so i started taking the pill in feb. last year and stoped taking it after 2 weeks. i started my period about 4 days after the wedding. SO..maybe you can start taking the pill in march, then wait about 3 weeks then stop taking it to you'll start your period...it kinda all depends on the day of the month you start. are you regular? my cycle comes like clock work so i knew what day i was going to start...
  • You could get on pills now, but like a pp stated you might not have enough time before your vacation to get your periods completely regulated.  If you wait until a week or two before your vacation, you'll likely be crampy and spotting and a bloated pizza face for your vacation.  Fun.

Would you plan to stay on the pill after your vacation?  Going on them for 3 months and then stopping them is a pretty short-sighted and stupid idea.  You might be better off just packing a Diva Cup and some Midol.

I was on the pill for over 17 years until last October.  I got off the pills as a last resort for finding a "cure" for my migraines.  Sure enough, I'm am pretty close to being migrain-free and my body feels a lot better overall now that I'm not on b/c.  My periods are extremely regular and only last for two full days.  I'm tempted to just schedule my vacation one week later to avoid the problem.

I've never tried the Diva Cup, but I'll Google it now to see exactly what it is and how it works.

  • START NOW!!!! 2 to 3 weeks in advance wont change enough for you..if you start now, you can skip through the placebo pills and change the timing..hopefully :)

  • There's also something called Instead that's sold at drugstores, Target, etc.  I'ts a disposable version of the diva cup, from what I understand.
