How to celebrate the 1 yr anniv of buying our house?

My husband and I are coming up on the one year anniversary of closing on our house.  We're not sure we'll end up with children, so I want to be sure we have many personal achievement anniversaries to celebrate every year and I thought it might be nice to celebrate the anniversary of the closing on our house.  Of course, the first thing that came to mind was ordering pizza and sitting on the floor with no lights on (which we really didn't even experience since I ordered the power in advance) - and we order pizza more than I like to admit.

 Any ideas?

Re: How to celebrate the 1 yr anniv of buying our house?

  • You could do a nice photo shoot of you two in front of your house and make it a tradition. You could frame the pictures each year and see how you change as the years go by in your house. Or buy a new piece of art or furniture each year to add to your house... enjoy your special time in your new home!
  • Both great ideas!  Was thinking of the artwork idea.  It would give me an excuse to spend money on good art!
  • I love those ideas...DH and I are building a new house and are about to move next month.  I think I'm going to take that picture idea and make it a scrapbook.  Thanks for the tip!  :)

Another idea I thought of was throwing a party with your closest friends.  Have a few couples over for game night or something fun....maybe just desserts...or order pizza and enjoy!

  • What we have done over the last 4 years is make electronic picture books of the different changes of the house.  Shows how many changes we have made and its a great way to look back at that first day.

  • For our first wedding anniversary (and shortly after moving into our house), I had a pencil sketch drawn of our home, then had it matted and framed, as a gift to my husband.  He loved it and it hangs at our entry way, with vinyl wall letters that say "Home is where the heart is".  Anyway, it is always commented on when people come into our home.

I like the idea of getting artwork, furniture, or maybe new lamp or light fixture each year on the anniversary of your closing.  That would always give you something to look forward to, as far as home improvement goes and will give you something to pick out as a couple (maybe a trip to a different city to find the new item, to make it even more special for the two of you).

Good luck and cograts on being in your home for a year!

  • You guys have a lot of good ideas. I am going to use some of them. In June will be our 1 year owning our house and I was going to get a plaque made with our house numbers on it and our last name. For example: Smith Est. 2008.
  • Don't know if you'd find this being Feb. but we have an xmas ornament of our first house and it is a favorite every year since it is one of our first memories as a married couple.

We also had friends of ours take a color photo of us (one with lots of natural light/shadows) and had them hand sketch a black and white one.  We matted it and framed it and had wedding guests sign their well wishes.  It ties our wedding, house, and family/friends all together and we both love it.

Another idea is to put a picnic blanket down on the floor and maybe eat pizza or some fruit dipped in chocolate or something.  Have Fun!

  • You could frame the blue prints of your home and have a little placard that says "Our First Home - date."
  • I like the blue print idea. Where would you get those? Also you can get a plaque of your house made. I got mine done. If anyone is interested I can send the e-mail. It is a wife and husband that do it out of Miss. I got my church and recepetion on made too. Just another idea.
  • I would check with the city or town clerks office or the town building inspector they should have a copy.

  • Thanks, i'll do that
