Since we leave in less than a month, I figure I better start planning the details. After all - while the plane tickets will get us there, we might want a place to stay.
Anyone know anything about the Makena Beach hotel (formerly the Maui Prince)? They are running some super good deals, but not sure if they are still nice since they are with new owners. Also considering the Wailea Marriott. Any thoughts?
I've also been kicking around doing something special as sort of a reminder of our wedding. (Our anniversary is in September, but since we havent been back to Maui since the wedding, I thought it might be nice, especially since we have been through a lot since the wedding including DH's health issues.) I thought about doing some beach photos (not sure though if DH would be up for that), or something else? Any ideas?
If anyone has any recs, suggestions, ideas, I would really appreciate it. TIA!
Re: Planning our Maui trip
We stayed at the Maui Prince for our HM in 07...it's a nice location and the beach rocks. Cannot say now that they're under new management how the service, rooms, etc. would be. It is in the pricey part of the island though and if/when we go back we plan to stay in Kihei or Lahaina which is more up our alley when it comes to dining and shopping, etc.
As for the photos...that's a great idea...maybe Evonne (MrsBabySalute) is available? She and her hubby have started a photography business, in addition to the event planning company:

We stayed at the Wailea Marriott for our wedding last summer. I loved it there! I love that it's so close to the water, since there's no beach there (you just have to walk 30 feet to Wailea Beach). We had an oceanfront room, and from our lanai we could literally walk 20 feet and be in the water. I like the infinity pool, too, and the fact that all the kids stuff is in a completely different area, so it's more adult-friendly, rather than kids running around everywhere. Its' pretty spread-out, but I liked that. I'd much rather be on the other side of the resort than on the 8th floor of a featureless tower.
My sister (and MOH) stayed at the Maui Prince. She liked it, and I think got a good deal. But, I also know she wasn't there much, as she was staying alone, and is much more of a do-er than a relaxer. SO I don't really know if she truly liked it, or if it just suited her needs at the time. That said, though, she's pretty picky, so it must've been nice, or she wouldn't have tolerated it!
Also, while I do like the idea of a beach photo shoot, another idea for a special occasion would be to have a private beach dinner. There are a few companies that do it on Maui. They bring a private table, linens, etc. and cook you a nice dinner right on the beach just for the two of you. We looked into it when we were there, but ultimately ran out of time. It's a little expensive (I think maybe $400 or so?), but it would be a very special way to celebrate.
I also saw one couple do this at the Wailea Marriot while we were there. They had dinner on one of the decks in the infinity pool. It was so nice looking!
