WWYD - stag and doe and baby

SIL's stag and doe is in two weeks. DH and I are both in the wedding party, so I'd like to go to help/support. The rest of the bridal party will be running games, selling tickets, etc. I'd like to be there to contribute. Also, I don't really want to be left out. I feel like this is one of those events that will have a million stories attached to it, and I'll be completely left out for years to come if I don't attend. DH will be going regardless.

I'm still exclusively breastfeeding and haven't really figured out pumping. I tried a few weeks ago, and barely got a half-ounce of milk, over 3 pumping attempts. Which means the idea of leaving her with someone here seems out since we'd be gone 8-10 hrs (it's out of town)

My latest idea is to get a hotel room near the venue and bring her with us, and take shifts with my in laws watching her, while the other people are at the event. My IL's are planning on going to the stag and doe, but I'm positive wouldn't mind helping watch baby. That way I could feed her, and still go/help at some of the event.

Do you think this is feasible? She'll be 7 weeks old... my only other idea is to stay home and skip the whole thing, but I don't really want to do that though...

Thoughts? I've never actually been to a stag and doe before... so I'm looking for some perspective.

TIA!

Re: WWYD - stag and doe and baby

  • I'm not the biggest stag & doe expert (largely b/c I'm not a fan of them, but thats a whole different subject).  But, I can tell you that I've been to a stag and doe where there were 2 babies there.  Probably, not something I would do, but I guess its an option to consider.  If you got an easy game to run, maybe your little one could sit along side (or, if your friends and family are anything like mine, there'll be volunteers to hold her).

I'm sure I'm not help at all, but if it were me, I'd make an appearance, but its not something I would worry about (disclaimer - that's just anti-wedding me though).

Good Luck.  Perhaps you could get the bride's input.

  • Oh I'm totally anti-stag and doe too. But even though I'm against them, I am still in the wedding party, so do want to go and help.

I was wondering about bringing baby... I don't think I'd want to be in charge of a game with her. She's usually a good baby, but I'd want a quick exit if she freaks out.

I suppose I could bring her in her sling and be a ticket seller or something....

Maybe I'll ask the groom, it seems to be his thing - I don't think the bride has even been to a S&D before...

  • Personally, I'd go and make an appearance and just try to help out with whatever needs an extra pair of hands, rather than making any commitment to manning a particular stand. I think it's feasible; my friends brought their 8-week old to my wedding and b-fed on site.

  • All the Stag and Doe's that I've been involved with I was super busy beginning to end. I would probably go, but don't make any commitments re: games, etc. That way if she gets fussy or you want to leave you can.

  • It would be a good idea to plan for the overnight, that way if she does act up you can make and exit with or without the hubs and then work out a babysitting plan.?

But since she is such a great little ?one, I would bring her, BF her there and just have a good time. There will be so many family members there willing to take her and help out. I have my wrap and ergo carrier if you wanted to borrow either too.?

  • If it were me, and DD were 7 weeks, I would likely bring her in a sling... If she's bound close to your body and you can nurse on demand, she'll be amazing.

I wouldn't want to miss out on the S&D either. Go and have fun! :)

  • I'm not sure if you're going to see this but....we just came back from London, ON with Mia for a cousin's shower & stag n' doe. She's 3 weeks old....

It may depend on the kid but she was fine and slept the whole time even with the loud "club-like" lights/music playing.

  • I would do like what Nat said... bring her and wrap her to you. Nurse on demand, and let relatives get their fill too (but you can still pull her back in the wrap if it gets to be too much).

for me the concern would be the car ride - my boys never took to the car at that age, and a screaming baby for a few hours in a car might just be a deal breaker. I don't know how far you are going though... so that might not be an issue at all.

  • Thanks everyone, I appreciate the replies. I thought maybe I was crazy to try and bring her (my sister was trying to convince me it would be like  kegger... - I don't think she's been to many S&D's either though), so it's nice to have some perspective from other mama's.

I think I'll bring her. I have a sling I will bring to put her in, and she's usually good around people.

Rach - the car ride won't be a problem at all. She loves the car and always sleeps when we're driving.
