Where to look for a home in Bham?
Hi all,
My husband and I are going to be moving to the Bham area next year and are starting to look at the different suburbs of the area and just don't know where to begin. What areas are safe? Which ones should we stay away from? Which ones have good school systems? We just don't know anything about the area and would love any information you guys could give us!
TIA!!!
Re: Where to look for a home in Bham?
No. Shelby County is always a good place to start... only about 15 mins from metro birmingham, and they have one of the best school systems in the region...
Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Hoover, and Cahaba Heights are great too, but they're a little more pricey. They also have quite possibly the best school system in birmingham.
Chelsea is a cute little area in No. Shelby County that's a little off the beaten path, but the homes are a little less expensive and the area is really growing.
Leeds, Moody, and Trussville is a little more rural, but Moody and Trussville still have pretty great school systems and Leeds' school systems are getting better.
realtysouth.com is a great place to start, you can search homes by map instead of area to get an idea of where things are and what you can find.
I'm not really sure of where to tell you not to look. The perimeter around the metro area can be a little rough, except for the highland park/mountain brook/homewood area. Any good real estate agent will be able to point you in a direction though.
Fultondale and Gardendale which are both 10-15 mins north of Bham is also a good area. They are neighboring cities that are in a great school system. Fultondale has been thriving in business for the past year and it's still growing, so that would be a good area to look in. Gardendale is also a big business city as well and they have alot of great residental areas that are kid friendly.
Farther up north in the Kimberly/Morris area, about a 10 min drive from Gardendale. That's actually the area I live in and I also grew up there, and it's also a rural area about 20 miles outside of Bham. It has been thriving in residential development and it's also a great school system and alot of families are moving there for that reason.
This is random, but the preacher that married my dh and I serves in Morris right now. Are you familiar with Morris/Friendship UMC?
I know exactly where Morris UMC is! What's his name?
my hubs and i live in the trussville area and love it!
we will probably end up in north shelby county before it is all over with though....due to his job
either place is a winner though! looks like lots of people have already given you good advice about those areas!
good luck!
we're in hoover....bluff park specifically and we love how close we are to everything...15 min down (w/ traffic), 10 min to homewood, 10 min to the galleria area...but it still feels very slow and small town w/ lots of great neighbors
we had no idea it even existed when we started looking..but we're so glad we found it!
good luck!
