Both VP Picks: Re-Do?

Is there anyone else out there who thinks both sides could have picked a better running mate?

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

Re: Both VP Picks: Re-Do?

  • I think Obama could have picked someone a little more exciting and I think McCain definitely could have picked someone with a little more credibility.
  • Don't go to the dark side, 2V! Here's a tinfoil hat to protect you from the crazies on E08 and their tinfoil hats :::hands one over::: Wink

Do I think they could have done better? I think everyone hear knows I think McCain could have. Obama, maybe, maybe not. I'm not in the HRC for VP camp, and I really thought Biden was the best of a bunch of ho-hum options.

I don't think this year is anything unusual though. I think Kerry could have picked better, I think Bush could have picked better, I think his dad could have too. There's a lot of gambling and gamesmanship that goes on with a VP pick, and each choice shows a particular strategy. The thing is we only ever get to figure out how one scenario worked out.

I don't think either of them should dump their pick and try over now. With less than 40 days to go, and in the current crisis we're in, it's too much turmoil. Given McCain's radical behavior as of late, I wouldn't put it past him to throw out another major change-up, but I can't see how dumping Palin could benefit him at all.

  • Yeah, I really like Biden, too.

  • I'm not thrilled with Biden.  I haven't been ever.  I think Richardson would have been a better choice - you get foreign policy experience and executive experience.  He's still a Washington insider in some ways, but he's kept one foot out long enough that he is still fresh and exciting.

But whatever, Biden is still a better choice than HRC would have been, and I was an HRC supporter.  I just think she and Obama are oil and water and just shouldn't be near each other.

And I agree with Pescalita.  VP picks are hard, you almost never get exactly what you want and they all involve a sacrifice in some way.

  • I'm pretty happy with Biden.  I wanted Jack Reed, but Biden is good too.
