And the bad luck continues...

I'm on my way home because apparently my neighbors were getting oil delivered today but they accidentally pumped it into my house. Our house had oil heat at one time but does not anymore therefore has no tank. I guess my basement is full of it. Fan freaking tastic! Some beach, some where.

Re: And the bad luck continues...

  • Jenni - I am so sorry.  Things HAVE to get better very very soon for you!
  • Ugh. I'm sorry! I'm sending you serious **better days ahead** viibes.
  • I haven't made it home yet since 95 is a parking lot but DH is there. He said there are 85 gallons of oil in our basement. The people are already there pumping it out but we have to leave for several days. So, we along with our 4 cats are headed to my parents.
  • Whaaaat? I hope they are fixing that for you ASAP!
  • omg, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! I hope the company fixes things asap.

  • How does this happen?  They should be paying to put you up in a hotel. Along with making sure your basement is return the way it was before the accident.  Their insurance would cover it.  Don't hesitate to make demands.

This. I am really sorry, don't get how someone could make a mistake like that!

  • yuck!!  Sorry you're dealing with this crap. But I agree with the others - they should be paying for any damage and the cost of putting you guys (and your cats!) in a hotel for however many nights you're required to leave.
  • unfortunately, the insurance probably wouldn't cover putting you up somewhere else because as long as you have water and power to the house, its considered livable.  however, they should pay every penny of the cost to clean it up and get everything back to how it was before.   good luck!!
  • Oh gosh, I'm so sorry!  Lots of hugs, Jenni!  I know your luck is going to turn around soon :)

I absolutely agree with this. GL!

  • They know we are staying with my parents but said the will pay us like we were at a hotel.  I'm not hauling 4 cats to a hotel and I would rather stay with my parents anyway.  Currently, most of the crap we had in our basement is out back under a tarp in the snow.  Tomorrow, DH and I get the pleasure of documenting everything we lost.  And of course, I had a big pile of stuff down there to take to the dump once the weather got better.  The trash in that pile is about the only things not covered in oil.  It's just unbelievable.
  • Oh my gosh!??#R$#$#@ this is insane! How do they mistakenly do that? We have oil heat so I know what it smells like! But all over you basement? I am absolutely sick over reading this :(

Hold them accountable! I pray things turn around for you guys!!

    Things will turn around soon!

  • That is just AWFUL! I'm So sorry!!!! Are the oil people going to do anything to remedy the situtation?  Pay for clean up?

Yes, they are here now for round 2 of clean-up and we will be putting in a damage claim with their insurance for damages.  They pumped out the oil last night.  I was supposed to work today but instead I'm home dealing with this BS.

  • OMG...I am trying to pick my jaw up off of my desk!  I just read this and am in complete awe!!!  And I totally agree with PP...you're in control on this one now...what a complete screw up...WTF???

I am just so sorry for you both!!!

  • I'm sorry to hear this! I really hope you are being compensated for being put out and all the stress of the situation. This is completely irresponsible on their part, I still can't figure out what they must have been thinking (or lack there of!) :::hugs:::
    Visit The Nest!
  • Is HAZMAT there?  We had a leak and Hazmat was at our house in 1 hour.... the clean up cost $50,000 (thank god insurance covered it).  You'll get paid for everything -- including new walls/flooring.  Document beyond comprehension --- they will cover everything because they don't want you to sue their asses off.

That totally sucks... beyond what any of us can imagine.

  • Tongue Tied huh? That really is the most redic. thing I have heard in a long time. I'm so so so sorry you have to deal with this. It's good that you will be reimbursed for everything, but its still a HUGE PITA. Really, I seriously cannot get over that this happened to you.
  • Wow, I can't get over how incompetent they could be for making such a HUGE mistake.  I agree with Lisa, because of the hazards this can cause, they should be taking care of everything down to the oil soaked walls.  I'm so sorry about this Jenni.  :::Vibes::: for you and DH to get through yet another trial.  It will get better.

  •  Being a Socal native I really have no idea what this actually entails, but it sounds messy. sorry hun!

  • So sorry to hear you are dealing with this upon everything else. Lots of vibes and hugs headed your way! I hope everything goes as smoothly as it can with the clean-up and insurance.
  • WTF!! I'm so sorry Jenni. Make sure the oil company pays you a butt-load of money.
