Tax poll

Has everyone completed their taxes?  We just got the final documentation to sign from our accountant, and I am putting it in the mail!  Yay!

Re: Tax poll

  • I did our federal taxes but didn't get through the state ones yet.  I use TaxCut (or whatever they are calling it now).  I should probably put this on my to do list to finish up this weekend.  I hate putting it off til the last minute.
  • We had to paper file because we're receiving the first time home buyers credit. I mailed it on the 2nd and they received it on the 9th. In about a week or two our info should come up on the "Where's my refund?" IRS website, but we won't receive our refund for a couple monts post that.

We could have filed our taxes and then ammended them for the credit, but I figured that I would have to mail something regardless and we don't need the extra $450 we're getting back on our regular taxes asap.

  • We filed a couple weeks ago, no refund, we actually owed!  DH received a promotion this year but there weren't any adjustments in his paycheck so they weren't taking out enough each time.  Bummer.

  • We just did ours this weekend and we were SHOCKED at how much we were getting back. So we made an emergency call to our accountant and turns out it's accurate! We are so pumped to pay off some debt. H was out of work most of last year so we definitely have some recovery from our emergency savings account to make up for and this helps a ton!
  • Nope, haven't done them yet. DH actually just picked out an accountant online. He wanted to find one that we could develop a relationship with because we just got married this year and he's going to start buying into his company and blah blah blah..so we'll see how it goes. I think he's making an appointment with her today.

  • I haven't even started them yet... maybe this weekend. I'm anxious to see how they turn out.
  • I havent done them yet.. Its a mixture of I keep forgetting and not wanting to do them since my job didn't take out any taxes..

  • I think our federal is done, but we have to file separately for state taxes, because we moved here at different times. DH has finished his, but we still have to do mine- which are way more complicated than his. grr. I've never hated taxes so much before- MA forms are way more confusing and complicated than anywhere else I'd ever lived!
  • Haven't completed them yet. We're waiting for any last minute documents and then we'll send them to our accountant. We're still deciding on whether to max out our Roth IRA before we file, too.
  • My W-2 came in and I marched upstairs, sat down at the computer, and did my taxes in about 20 minutes (I got lucky).... on Jan 31.  My refund came in about 2 weeks ago- I would have owed, but ended up qualifying for a student credit, so I got that back.  I'm definitely going to owe for state, but I'm going to mail that in because I don't think it's worth it to pay someone $30 to mail my $10 check.  Next year will be more complicated, obviously, but I only worked at one place last year, and didn't sell any stocks, and the interest from our savings all went under FI's name so he'll account for that on his taxes.  I've never done taxes so early and I am so glad to have it over with already.

  • FIL does nothing all day so we just sent him our stuff and he did it all for us! DH calls him our "secretary" haha
  • Nope, not done yet and won't be until October.  We pretty much always have to file an extension.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • DH is stalling because he thinks we have to pay. I told him be better call the accountant tonight or else haha.

  • Dh already partially did ours but after he found out that we'll owe taxes, he hasn't sent them in yet.. Sad

You couldn't efile?  We did TurboTax/efiled last year when we got our credit and had no problems and didn't need to do anything extra.

Ours are "done" but we haven't filed them yet.  I should tell DH to do that this week
