Libby's Mommy & Lisa with the red shoes

I have GD as well and I've been testing 4 times a day. My numbers below the thresholds my doctor has set AND I haven't changed my diet too much. My doctor wants to see me EVERY week so they can review my chart and I think that's a bit excessive espcially at $45 co-pay per visit. Not to mention the time I have to take off work. My questions are:

Did you see your numbers creep higher as you approched week 30? (Lori you already answered this in your previous post)

How often did you see your diabetes doctor? Could you call in or e-mail your numbers so you didn't have to go in for a visit?

Re: Libby's Mommy & Lisa with the red shoes

  • The numbers do start to creep...I had to increase my insulin at 33-34 weeks because my fasting number went up (again, which was why I orginally started insulin).

How often did you see your diabetes doctor? Could you call in or e-mail your numbers so you didn't have to go in for a visit?

I saw the diabetic nutritionist twice...once right after my dx and the for a follow-up two weeks later...since by then I was already working with an endocrinologist I was told I'd only need to see her again if my Endo or OB needed me to do so.  I only paid one co-pay to see the nutritionist since the second appt. was just a follow-up to the first.

I initially saw the Endo on 11/24 (my 35th bday Crying) and started insulin the next day.  I had to fax her my food chart/glucose number sheet once a week.  If there was a concern, they'd call me.  I had one follow-up on 12/4...numbers were good and she said I didn't need to come in again unless she saw an issue on my weekly faxes.  When my dosage of insulin was increased she just called me to talk me through it.  I paid co-pays for both visits ($25 each time) and that was it.

  • Well I've only been testing for one week, and that was week 29...so honestly, I don't know if my numbers are increasing with week 30. That said, my doctor warned me that because your insulin resistance naturally increases as a pregnancy progresses (even in someone without GD), even if I could keep it under control with diet alone initially (which it already looks like I can't - I'm super careful and my numbers are still just over the edge), I'd probably have to go on insulin after a couple of weeks...so if you start having issues after week 30, I wouldn't be surprised.

Currently I'm seeing my doctor every other week - I don't know if this will increase or not (maybe, maybe not...I mean, realistically I only have another 5-6 weeks to go, so...*shrug*). However, I have my dietitian's email and can email her for suggestions if I'm struggling with food choices or need ideas on how to bring numbers down - but that's not the same as seeing the doc to go over my numbers.

  • Thanks for your input ladies !!!
