Clicky Poll- How do you deal w/snoring?

My DHs loud breathing is driving me nuts! Both of my dogs snore too.

[Poll]

Re: Clicky Poll- How do you deal w/snoring?

  • Does it help if he turns on his side?  DH can snore really loudly on his back, but if I nudge him on his side, it's silent for the rest of the night.  I don't know how I'd survive otherwise!

  • My DH only snores when he's been drinking and the rule is he sleeps in another room when he's drunk enough that he's snoring.
  • Oh man, I have dealt with it since Day 1.  It runs in his family so I guess I'm stuck!  :)

I feel bad nudging him so sometimes I end up sleeping in the other room.  But most often, I just throw some ear plugs in.

I used to not hear it so much but now that I'm not as tired as I used to be (when I was employed), I hear it more and it bothers me more.

I swear I don't snore but MH thinks I do.  So one night he caught me snoring and he videotaped me.  The nerve huh?  It was very light and he says it rarely happens but he wanted to prove a point!

  • My DH snores no matter what position he's in. Sometimes it's not a snore but loud breathing. I'm sure I do the loud breathing too but he never hears it because his head hits the pillow and he's out. I on the other hand take an hour to fall asleep, that's w/ earplugs in. If I lose my earplugs I might not sleep at all the whole night, even if I go to another room. I've been trying to wean myself off of ear plugs this whole pregnancy and it's not working. DH thinks I'll be so tired when LO is here that I won't have trouble. I hope he's right b/c I can't wear ear plugs and risk not hearing him crying!

Also, we're tried snore strips and they don't work at all. DH refuses to try the snore spray :-(

  • I usually do some nudging first and see if moving him into a different position helps.  Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt.  If it doesnt help, then I move on to the earplugs if the snoring is bothering me.
  • I try to fall asleep before he does.  If that's not an option, I will put my hand on his chest and he will usually stop snoring.  If that doesn't work I will listen to my iPod to block out his snores.
  • I try to fall asleep first & once I am sleeping I don't hear his snores.  If he falls asleep first, I kick him until he turns on his side.  (on his side he doesn't snore)

His parents are unbelieveable though.  you can literally hear them throughout the house.  I hope he never gets that bad!!!  (he can be loud, but he doesn't rattle the windows!)

MH doesn't snore though he occasionally breathes loudly...i just nudge him and he stops...or i nudge him til he wakes up and then he stops ;) but he falls back asleep right away

MH is like yours and falls asleep w/in 2 min of hitting the pillow.  i'm like you and take an hour to fall asleep.  during those early weeks when you are up all the time, i fell asleep almost immediately b/c i was so sleep deprived :) i didn't think i would b/c i am such an insomniac...but i did! so i think you should be fine there...once the LO starts STTN, well, that may be another matter. i am now back to taking an hour to fall asleep and i hate it b/c she still only sleeps anywhere from 4-7 hrs overnight and i feel like i am wasting precious time trying to fall asleep!

  • I had to vote other b/c my husband offers the variety pack of night-time noises.

If he is on his back and snoring, I ask him to roll on his side.

Sometimes, he does this weird "Puh" sound when he exhales. I think he breathes in through his nose and out through his mouth. Every time he exhales, a loud "Puh" pops out. When he breathes in, his lips close again. Exhale "Puh". When he does that, I ask him to lay on his other side (facing away).

There are times when he is really tired, his breathing is loud, he snores, he whistles and no way he rolls will make him quiet. When it is like that, I just let him sleep. I've tried ear plugs. I can usually hear snoring through it.

I wish they made 100% soundproof ear plugs that you could sleep on. I've tried the highest db, and still hear it.

  • Ben only snores after a night of boozing - when that happens, I treat him pretty roughly because otherwise it's nearly impossible to get him to stop lol. He really only does it when he's lying on his back, so I just whack him until he rolls onto his side. Stick out tongue

That said, apparently pregnancy has made ME the guilty party lately! Ben told me the other day that I've been snoring - and pretty loudly - for the last few weeks. Embarrassed

  • I voted for other since I am the snorer.  Embarrassed  I know it's bad when I wake up because MH has pushed me....hard.
  • MH doesn't snore that often, but when he does I just push him and tell him to turn on his side and then it stops.

Not sure what I would do if it was an everyday problem - because the rare times it does happen it really bothers me until he stops.

  • I elbow him in the side until he rolls onto his side.  He doesn't even realize I'm doing it.  He sleeps like the dead, so it takes a LOT to wake him up.

I don't feel guilty because sometimes he turns over in his sleep and smacks me in the face with his arm.  I think we're even.

  • haha, i'm totally giggling aloud by everyone's responses.  On rare occasion MH will snore softly, but stops if he switches position - so I just nudge him a bit.  he sleeps like the dead the moment his head hits the pillow (and sometimes even before that!)  i've never woken up b/c of his snoring.

Lisa, my H told me the same thing when I was in my last trimester.  To prove it, he recorded me!  I could have killed him!  It was LOUD, LOL!

  • DH only snores if he's extremely sick or exhausted, so it's not all the time.  He'll usually stop if I nudge him or he'll roll onto his side or tummy.  I am also a pretty heavy sleeper so if  I can get to sleep first it doesn't bother me.  Our pugs snore often, but we've found if they're under the covers, so we just make sure they're covered up and that usually stops their snoring.
  • I chose other because I make him wear a mouth piece AND I wear ear plugs just in case he sneaks it out of his mouth in the middle of the night Stick out tongue

Sounds like he may have extra tissue in the back of his throat or enlarged adenoids.  Has he seen an ENT?  That might be the trick.

Oh, thank goodness I'm not the only one!  I also voted for "other," since it's me.  MH usually wears ear plugs, or wakes me up.  If it's really bad, he'll go sleep in the guest room (which he actually did last night).  It's not ideal, but when we both have to work early and my snoring is really bad (which it has been a LOT since becoming pg), it's for the best.  In fact, I got the best night's sleep I've had in a a week last night, since I didn't have him shoving me every half hour!

By the way, he snores very lightly, but it doesn't bother me at all.  In a weird way, I kind of like it.

I snore too, but not regularly...usually if I am sick (sinus infections, etc.) or extremely exhausted (which is lately).

  • MH doesn't snore but once in a blue moon, he will. I just nudge or tap him and he'll shift his position and stop snoring, but usually he'll wake up (we're both light sleepers), so I'll say "you're snoring" and he'll go "oh sorry" and go back to sleep. And when he falls asleep the second time, he doesn't snore anymore =) Apparently, I'm the same (don't snore except once in a blue moon) but MH never wakes me up because he says that I love my sleep and I don't like being waken up =P

LOL! Aww! I hope that doesn't happen often! I think MH has only done that to me once and I gave him a really hard time about it =P

  • I've learned which side he doesn't snore as bad on so when he wakes me up I usually give him a little nudge and he will roll over that way.
  • I've tried pinching his nose shut and nudging him but probably what works best is giving him 'scratchies'.  No, nothing mean.  He likes really really light scratches on his skin so if I do that on his shoulder or arm, it'll stir him from his sleep enough to make him stop snoring but not so much that he completely wakes up.  Smile
