i have a petite uterus

i was dead set on getting mirena put in last week - i psyched myself up, only to find out that my uterus is too petite and i wouldn't have a good "fit." boo

at least something about me is petite...so i guess i should feel good about that part

Re: i have a petite uterus

  • I have one too =/ random comment, but if you ever do decide to have a baby (I'm guessing since you wanted Mirena you want to at least wait awhile), your baby can be at risk for "malformations" when the uterus is small. My son was born with one--(don't laugh) an imperforated anus. The pediatrician's missed it when he was born so he had to have surgery at 4 months, when we noticed his pooping wasn't normal. Apparently it's too crowded in the uterus for the baby to form properly or something. Anyways, just one more thing to look forward to about pregnancy :(

  • My SIL also had an imperforated anus and it was very scary having surgery at such a young age.

Also, I didn't know that certain people can't have Mirena put in because of petiteness. I plan on taking a ton of ibuprofen and dramamine before getting Mirena in a few years because I've heard that it is quite painful getting it put in.

how old was she when she had the surgery? if they had discovered it--like they should have--at his exam when he was born, he would have had the surgery when he was a few days old--I don't think I could have handled that =/

  • I think she was about 4 months old when she had the surgery...her mom noticed that something wasn't quite right and took her to the specialists at Vanderbilt and they decided to do the surgery. She's perfect now, though!
