College

Has anyone been to any good schools in the Cincinnati area? I work full time and have a part time job so I'm looking for a school with flexible class schedules and a reasonable price.

Any advice you have would be awesome!

Re: College

  • My SIL did her BA & MBA through Indiana Wesleyan in West Chester.  Most of her classes were on line.  Her employer paid the tuition though.

  • DH is in the TAP program at THomas Moore. The program is an excellerated version of the Bachelors/Masters degree.... he is getting his bachelors in 3yrs... they have class one night per week 6-10pm year round and meet with a small group once in a while... but overall it works well for adults with a hectic schedule.

  • Xavier is ranked in the top 50 schools for MBA programs in the country. I think they might have been #16 when I looked last year. They have executive MBA programs that run on weekends.
  • What kind of program are you looking for? I did my undergrad and grad work at UC and I teach evening classes at one of their branch campuses.

I can think of 5 good schools off the top of my head. Why don't you let us know what kind of program you are looking for?

  • What degree do you want?  Miami U has just instituted a Bachelors Completion program at their regional campuses for people who have their associates to finish a BIS (Bachelors of Integrative Studies).  All classes are nights and weekends.

I'm getting my degree thru IWU, as well.  I believe Xavier has a similar program, but I can't speak on it because I don't know for sure.

At IWU, you can take online courses or you can go to class on campus in West Chester.  I'm not the kind of person that does well with online courses so I chose the campus route.  It's geared toward working adults.  You enroll in a program and they place you in a core group.  You take one class at a time.  You  meet one night per week - always the same night through the entire program.  When your 5- or 6-week class (or some are longer in the Master's program) is over, you move on to the next one.  There are times when you have a one-week break inbetween classes, but not always.

It works well because you only have to give up one night a week, you only have to focus on one class at a time, and you're still considered to be in school full-time which has some benefits.

If my memory serves me correctly (I don't really pay much attn to the numbers), tuition is a little over $200/credit hour...which is very reasonable IMO.

They don't have a ton to choose from as far as degrees go, so you'd want to look into that.  But if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

  • I am getting ready to graduate from Cincinnati State soon, then I will start a Degree Completion Program through Tiffin University.  Check with C-State and ask them which schools host Degree Completion Programs there.  I know at least 3 schools do them there in at least 3 degree programs...
