Jalapeno Plants help 4 Newb
Hi All!
I started growing some Jalapeno plants from seed indoors last spring. I transplanted them before winter to separate them and give them more room. They're ok for now, nice and green, but last spring they were almost the same height and they never got much past the leafy stage.
Do you think they will bloom once it gets warmer/more humid? What do I need to do before them to ensure this?
Re: Jalapeno Plants help 4 Newb
I'm in IL right now. The average temp for the last week has been mid 30's. They're in hibernation right now, not expecting anything but continuing to live til it gets warmer.
No buds last year, but my cats could've eaten them (they've learned to stay away from them now).
Is kelp meal easy to get ahold of?
Any garden center (real garden center...not HD or Lowe's) should def. have it. You could look at other organic fertilizers, too.* You may want to pick up a soil test kit...you might have some deficiencies in the soil that aren't encouraging flowers.
Also, your jalepenos are outside now? Or inside under a grow lamp & a sunny window???? They really shouldn't be outside now...they should only go outside after your average last frost date (google this if you don't know the date).
*They all list the relative amounts of nitrogen, Phosphorus & potassium (NPK) on the packaging. You want something with relatively high (compared to nitrogen) "K" number.
They're inside. We live in apartment and don't have anywhere to plant them, maybe when we move in the summer we can ask the landlord.
Ty for the info on what to look for!!
Whew! that's what I thought form your OP, but I wasn't sure from your F/U. Setting them outside too early could also be why they wouldn't flower, so that's why I asked.
When it's finally warmer, just make sure they get lots of sun. Good luck!
