Because our tax preparer effed up and didn't include one of J's 1099's for 2008.
I am SO P*SSED right now I could spit.
Should I go back to this guy and make him fix it for free? or find someone else?
Re: We got Effing Audited
Agreed. I wouldn't trust him to do anything anymore, but I'd at least inquire as to whether you can get money back since he screwed up. That totally sucks!
Yep! That is seriously uncool.
He's done J's Mom's taxes for years. She's never had a problem. WAH.
Wait were you audited or did you get a notice in the mail? You can usually just respond to the notice and pay the tax due. An audit is a nasty and ugly process so I hope it's not that.
Did the preparer have a copy of the 1099 and just miss it? If so then find someone new asap.
Okay good - glad it's only a notice. It's still scary to get something from the IRS with your name on it, besides a refund check.
You can try to get out of a penalty and interest if they are assessing them on you. Just write a response to the notice saying that it was an inadvertent mistake, you always pay your taxes timely, it was a one time error and anything else that you want to throw in there as long as its true. It won't change the tax due but sometimes they will reduce/eliminate the penalty and interest.
