Dental Insurance Vent

Okay.  I realize that this is my fault, but hell, I'm still going to blame the system on this one.

I apparently am not allowed a dental cleaning twice a year.  I am allowed a dental cleaning every six months.   If I have a dental cleaning on a give day, and I schedule my next one for five months and three weeks after that, or five months and 29 days after that, they will not pay for it.  I just found that out the hard way, and I think it's a load of crap.

And by the way, 19-year-old-dental-insurance-phone agent, don't hide behind the "It's not our policy, it's your company's policy," and tell me to go "talk to my HR department to overwrite the policy,"  because at this point you're just telling me to get off the phone.

Take that.

Re: Dental Insurance Vent

  • Yeeaaaahhhhh, I know how frustrating that can be. Because I guess we're supposed to know every little policy in our health insurance plans, right? Pfft!

  • I think that your 19 year old phone agent fed you a load of bull to be honest.  Sure seems like it is their policy to not allow that and that your HR has nothing to do with it.

My Dad is a dentist and my mom is the office manager.  They totally watch for this for their patients for this very reason.  I'm so sorry that they're being dumb about it and that your Dentist didn't warn you either.  Totally stinks - do you have flex money you can use or anything like that?

  • What a load of crap!  Man, I'm sorry to hear that.  Can't tell you how many times my health insurance has done this sort of thing to me.  Its so disappointing.

  • So frustrating! My mom is a dental assistant and also the office manager, she also tries to look out for this for people. And the insurance girl is wrong, that has nothing to do with your HR!
  • Was it the same dentist both times?  I'm really surprised they would book you for your next 6-month appointment before 6 months had passed.  They should know that.  Whenever I am done and I go to the lady to book my next appointment, she says "ok, 6 months from today is X... when is good after that?"

  • Thanks ladies. I'd hate to say something to my dentist because 1) I really like my dentist, and 2) I'm not sure they'd reverse the charges anyway....

I don't know... My husband has his appointment next week.  Maybe he'll say something then.

My sister is a dental sales rep in Chicago - want me to send her over to give 'em "what for"?  Stick out tongue

  • Haha, no thanks.

    Where is your sister located?

Question, were you talking to someone at the company that provides the insurance? Or an agency that hooks you up with insurance policies? Because DH is an insurance agent.... meaning he is independent. So basically, his job is to find which company gives the best price and the best coverage for each client. Therefore, if, for example, blue cross had a certain rule, it has nothing to do with my H's office... and he would have to call blue cross and fight with them if there was an issue with your policy.  Not sure if you're talking about an independent agent or someone that works for the company that physically insures you... makes a big difference. Either way, let me know, and maybe DH will have some advice for you!

  • I spoke directly with MetLife insurance.  And on the twit of a girl's advice, I e-mailed my HR person just in case.  I don't expect anything to come of that, though.
  • Ok. Then I can't help you... lol. Good luck though!

They're in Lombard for the time being but I think that they'll end up back here in Minnesota sooner rather than later.  My BIL took a job in northern MN so they're going to be long distancing it for the next 5 months or so until they can get their house sold and figure out where they're going to end up.

  • GET OUT.  I lived in Lombard for a year and half before I got married!  What a fun coincidence!
  • I think that they like the town but they just don't know many people there so they feel a bit isolated.  They get really really excited when family and friends come to visit!  :)
