Engagement Party Advice

One of my bffs is getting married in May and her engagement party is March 6.  I've never been to an engagement party so I'm not sure of etiquette.  I'm a bridesmaid if that matters.  Can you help me with these questions?

1. What do I wear?  It's at 5 at her parent's house.  (casual dress? jeans and heels?)

2. Do I take a present?  Or just a bottle of wine and card?

Thanks!

Re: Engagement Party Advice

  • I would wear a spring skirt or sundress.  Definitely more than casual.  I also think you're right with the wine and card.  Unless you have a unique and special gift, I would wait until the wedding or a shower.

  • I'd probably wear something more dressy than jeans. As far as gifts, I always heard that giving an engagement gift is the same as giving a wedding gift (i.e. you don't have to give both).

  • I'd try and wear a dress or skirt.  I usually buy some champagne glasses, nice picture frame or something small for an engagement present
  • Thanks! I'm going dress shopping tomorrow. :-)
