FB Ads
So usually when I'm on FB there are ads for wedding photogs and sweepstakes. So I logged in this evening and found it kind of odd when the two ads that pop up on the side are for 'Thunder Down Under' and something with Fertility in the title. Apparently FB thinks I'm gettin' it on! hahaha.

I don't have ads anymore, I think I hid them somehow...
I do remember right after we got engaged and I changed my status on fb to "engaged" my ads changed to almost all wedding related ads.
Facebook allows advertisers to target a specific audience using information like relationship status, age, location, even keywords you may have in your profile, like 'wedding' 'fiance' 'baby' 'travel' etc.
I use FB ads and am able to get more direct exposure to the location and age range I am targeting. From an advertising standpoint it's actually pretty cool because when you do stuff like the newspaper or a magazine, you HOPE the 'ideal client' will see your ad and visit your website or call you.
SO, keep that in mind when you put things in your profile (or think about what's in your profile that could be triggering it!).
It's not always specific though, some of the spammy advertisers just use a generalized target like women 18-55.
Anyway I'm kind of a marketing geek...I've owned a retail store for 8 years and now I do a different kind of business (that I'm not allowed to talk about here lol) so I find this stuff interesting. I also have an obsession with stationery and sticky notes but that's a whole other post
