Why yes, I will answer my own question.

My initial thought was Klassy. But then I wondered if a men's team had done the same thing, would people be making a big deal out if it? Hmmm.

Klassy- they should have taken it to a bar to celebrate. It seems kind of like poor sportsmanship to me (women or men).

That's exactly what I said. If the men had done it, nobody would have said anything, they would have just laughed about it.

No one would say anything if it was the men's team. My only problem with it is that some of them were underage.

Yes, smoking is gross and bad for them; but if they want to kill themselves slowly over time, that's their right.

It seems excessive. Lighting cigars and smoking and celebrating...okay. I feel like the drinking on the ice was a poor choice. The should have taken the celebration off the ice. Men or women.

No offense to anybody if you've played hockey or have female friends that do, but isn't hockey kind of a Butch sport? In my mind I can't really imagine, sweet, prim and proper ladies playing hockey?

I agree that if it were the men's team, nothing would be under investigation and there would be no criticism. I think the sight of women smoking cigars and swigging beer has got some uptight chauvanistic briefs in a twist.

That being said... I think that, as Olympic athletes, these people are looked up to by others. I feel that when you are a role model to some, or talented and determined enough to get into the Olympics, you should really do your best to portray yourself as a role model with good sportsmanship. I don't think what they were doing sends a good message to people who look up to them... but I do understand that they aren't under contract with Disney or some other contract that prohibits them from acting in a manner that might be viewed as uncouth.

Ditto this. I think I would feel the same way if it were a men's athletic team. I've never seen a men's team do anything like this, and I would think it were inappropriate if I did.

I think I'm the only person that doesn't think it's a big deal. Good for them for celebrating and having fun. Obviously they aren't the kind of women that puff on cigars and chug beer every day, otherwise they wouldn't be in the prime athletic condition that they are. It was a victory celebration & it looks like they were having a great time.

I do not know what to think. Yeah, if they were ice dancers, it would have been Klassy, but they are hokey players, so it is a bit expected. Though, yeah they should have taken it else where. However, if they were in fact breaking some kind of rule, then the coaches or over seers of the team should have stopped them. The only charge that I see is legitimate, is the underage drinking, and perhaps the contributing to a minor. Other than that, it should be left alone. The Olympics are almost over, and next week it will be forgotten. But before the Olympic committee gets together and come up with a punishment, they should worry about incidents that are actually serious. I mean has anyone heard what will happen about the guy from Georgia who lost his life?

Is the drinking age 21 in Canada? I figured it was 18. Most of the pictures look like the stands are empty in the background, if they were full I think I'd be more bothered by it.

Yeah I know. Behind closed doors or something celebratory, but while you are on the ice with spectators and cameras still rolling, not so smart to do when you are underage.

I agree.

The article says the stadium was empty except for the media and arena staff. I'm guessing they thought they were in private. The game was over and so was the awards ceremony. They just won an Olympic gold medal and were savoring the moment. They weren't rubbing it in anyone's face. The media did that for them.

Wink One thing that I'm not entirely sure of is the timeline. If they had their picture fest after the game with the presentation of the medals, then went back to the locker room for some time to celebrate, and then came back out to the ice for a few extra snapshots, then I don't really have too much of an issue with it (though I do think that's what the locker room is for).

If they stayed on the ice for that entire time, which it sounds like was the case, then yeah, I think they were showboating. Disrespectful to the team they just beat. It was immature and selfish and I do think the coach should have told them to get the heck off the ice. I don't think there should be any serious repercussions though. They were just stupid--I don't think they really broke any laws (that one underage girl did, but REALLY?) or Olympic rules. Worst case scenario, they were unsportsmanlike and in the next game they play against any of the ladies from the American team, you can bet their checks will be just a little bit harder.

Take it off the rink, out of uniform. It's one thing to party and celebrate, but when you're representing your country, still in uniform, at a major sports event... take it out of the arena.

Honestly, I think it looks like fun. It sounds like they were in the locker room and decided to come back onto the ice.Maybe I am not interpreting this correctly.

Hockey Canada apologized for the players' conduct in a statement released late Thursday.

?The members of Team Canada apologize if their on-ice celebrations, after fans had left the building, have offended anyone. In the excitement of the moment, the celebration left the confines of our dressing room and shouldn?t have. The team regrets that its gold medal celebration may have caused the IOC or COC any embarrassment.

I can see how most if some stayed on the ice others came back out to join them. Since the stadium was empty of fans I do not really see the problem (other than the underage drinking). The girl who was underage should not have been drinking with the media around and I can understand having issues with that.

If there were no photos and you only found out by word of mouth that this is what happened would it seem like a big deal?
