We're going for yard of the month...lol

So we had a Griswold house at Christmas...or almost. He's already said that we need more lights for next year.

He has seeds (grass and flower) for the yard and he's been itching to get started on our 'awesome' lawn. It's full of weeds and b/c it's Bermuda- it looks dead. He's digging up weeds today and just called. He needed me to call our HOA to make sure it is ok that he rents a roto-tiller to till up the front lawn so he can put the new seeds down. Oy vey!  I'm secretly excited that he gets into this kind of stuff though.

I did put my foot down when he wanted to order Perfect Patch for the lawn....

  • I wish I could get DH excited about yard work!!
  • DH spent 4 hours pulling weeds last Sunday and there are still a ton left. Ugh. What kind of seed is he wanting to put down?

  • this is what I've been doing for the past few weeks!  I just do a little at a time with a manual tiller - what a PITA.  but it's my form of exercise and I'm getting some satisfaction by pulling out the horrendous weeds. ;)

p.s. I looked into perfect patch - google perfect patch review and it turns out it's not so good.  glad you saved some $$!

  • bobcatsteph- we bought bermuda grass seed and kentucky blue grass seed to aid it...don't ask me- I'll let him have the lawn as a project. lol

ssinca- Yeah, I'm big on reading reviews so I was grumbling at buying it...was not going to happen. Too much $$ for not enough seed!

  • btw, I think you're losing for "best" lawn - this is a photo from earlier this week when it snowed, but I'm sure you see the lovely weeds.

where the snow stuck is what I've dug up so far.  :/

  • I've been digging up weeds this week too, one bucket a day. They're such a PITA!!
  • I hate pulling weeds!  Our backyard had more weeds than grass but I think we're finally getting ahead.  DH is like your man...this is his first house and he's kinda obsessed  :)

  • I just finished pulling weeds. I even put a picture on FB of the weed/bush that was growing. It was big. The sad thing is i would have to be out there ALL day to get every last one of them. DH used to be really into the yard but I think the weeds won the battle. You can only pull so many weeds before you start thinking it's a loosing battle. We ate actually getting a service this year to treat fir weeds every 5-6 weeks. We've heard from neighbors it actually works. We also win free lawn service for a year. Were hoping this is the year we can finally win the weed battle.

lol...I saw your picture. It reminded me of a weed/tree I had earlier this year. I finally pulled it b/c I couldn't see Mason (white dog in my siggy) when he was behind it.
