Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 30 weeks, 3 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Better this week! Being off work makes all the difference. Smile

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Ummm...tomorrow. I'm seeing the very high risk clinic doctor (nothing bad, just a kind of meet-and-greet thing) and will probably be having an ultrasound. Oh, and I had my 30-week u/s yesterday.

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books? I looooove the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy. I've read through quite a few pregnancy books and this one is hands down my favorite, much better than WTEWYE, etc. For twins, I also love When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads - it's one of the few books that actually deals with multiples pregnancies in depth (not just a few lines here and there or dealing with them once they're born).

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms? Fatigue was probably the big one! My boobs didn't feel sore right away (it took a week or two for that) and nausea didn't hit until about 11 weeks, but OMG I was so tired...

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)? I'm in the awkward camp. I wish I could say I feel sexy and confident and gorgeous, but no matter how many times Ben tells me that he thinks I look amazing, I still just feel massive. Honestly, I'm really looking forward to having my body back, and I feel kind of guilty for saying that. Sad

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? LOL I've already made a list, so no - I just want to see what everyone else comes up with. Stick out tongue
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

Elyse is 11 weeks this week.  I can't believe how fast time is going!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

I'm feeling good.  Exhausted but good.  Elyse had been STTN from about 5 weeks to 8 weeks.  Then from 8 weeks to 10 weeks she was awake every two hours, then be up for the day at 4:30am.  Things have settled back down and she's only up twice in the night now.

For milestones, she can lift her upper torso up 45 degrees while she's on her tummy.  She's blowing bubbles like crazy.  And she's found her hand so completely that she gags herself with it constantly.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

We go see the pediatrician tomorrow to make sure she's still gaining weight.  I'm sure she is, she has the most adorable rolls on her arms and legs.  She's definately lost the scrawny bird look!

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books?

I read WTEWYE and baby whisperer.

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms?

To avoid any disgusting TMI details, I'll just say my CM changed.  I was also really hormonal.

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)?

Second and third tri were awesome because I had energy and rocked my bump.  I loved having a pregnant belly.  I woudn't say I felt sexy, but I definitley felt beautiful.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? (I'm going to make this a new standard question, so you can add questions for the next round or just skip this one if you don't have any.)

Mamas: What product/item made your life easier when getting used to life with a newborn?

For me: My mom, tylenol, sitz bath, a super cozy house coat for wearing when I'm up in the night.

For Elyse: Zippered onsies (seriously snaps are a a PITA at 2am).  Some kind of swaddler.  Swing.

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    one month old tomorrow (4w3d)

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

tired...but not as exhausted as the first 2 weeks.  She's consistently sleeping 3-4 hours at night between feedings/diaper changes.  So we tie 3 of those together and I get 6-8 hours of broken sleep.  Usually 11 p.m. - 2 or 3 a.m. and then 4-7 or 8 a.m.

Libby is smiling a lot now and starting to coo...she also has taken bottles of pumped BM from my hubby and my mom.   I was able to get out and grocery shop ALONE last Saturday morning.  And, we have our friends from CA coming in this weekend to visit, my mom is going to babysit their 18 month old and Libby on Saturday night so we can have an adult's only dinner date.  Can't wait!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Six week OB appt on March 10.  J is looking forward to my getting "cleared" from pelvic rest...LOL!

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books?

Mayo Clinic's Guide to Pregnancy also BabyCenter.com

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms?

    Implantation Spotting at 9DPO

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)?

I felt better about myself than I thought I would before I got PG or started TTC....at least until the end of the third tri...then, honestly?  I felt gross.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? (I'm going to make this a new standard question, so you can add questions for the next round or just skip this one if you don't have any.)

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

Mamas: What product/item made your life easier when getting used to life with a newborn?

For me?  Soothies Gel Pads (heaven on the nips)...  Also My Brest Friend nursing pillow and nurisng tanks from Target with button front PJs at night and yoga pants by day.  Also Tucks Pads (or Witch Hazel on cotton pads) and Always Infinity Overnight Pads.

For baby?  One piece fleece sleep and plays (the kind with feet that snap or zip up the front and down the legs).  Clothes that go over the baby's head and two-piece outfits are a PITA with a teeny, floppy baby.  Also, I have to say I am huge fan of the wipes warmer...not a necessity, but our home is chilly and it does make those diaper changes less traumatic (for mommy and daddy too Big Smile)

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers...link to your chart!

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    She'll be 2 weeks tomorrow.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Still pretty exhausted but last night was pretty good.  I got about 4 stretches of 2-3 hours of sleep and felt pretty refreshed when I finally got up at noon today.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Next pedi appt is in 2 weeks.  This week we went in for a weight check and she was up to 7 lbs 14 oz, still down from her birth weight but the doc wasn't concerned.

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books?

I read Your Pregnancy: Week by Week but wouldn't say it was all that helpful.

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms?

I had mild nausea starting at 6 weeks but if I didn't know I was pregnant, I'm not sure I would have thought much of it.

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)?

It took a long time for my bump to round out and look cute so I just felt kind of pudgy.  I guess I felt mostly awkward, definitely not sexy.

Mamas: What product/item made your life easier when getting used to life with a newborn?

I'm loving my Boppy and I gotta agree with Teri - the zippered onesies rock.

    John A IV (Jack)

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Jack is 5 days old

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling pretty good - just soooo tired.  Jack actually sleeps pretty well between feedings but I need to work on relaxing enough to also use that time for good sleep.

    (3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? went to the ped today - he is up 2 oz. since his hospital discharge weight - I guess that is really good because she acted kind of surprised.  He's a little piggy every since my milk came in so I wasn't surprised.  We both go back to the ped/MW next Friday.

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books? I too like the Mayo Guide.  I re-read Birthing From Within every few months and also liked the Penny Simkin book Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn.

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms? none except a sustained temp raise.  Never got sore boobs or extreme fatigue.  Started throwing up at about week 5.5

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)? I didn't feel one extreme or the other but was content with the way I looked.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? (I'm going to make this a new standard question, so you can add questions for the next round or just skip this one if you don't have any.)

Mamas: What product/item made your life easier when getting used to life with a newborn?

For me: For the bottom: Sitz baths - soooo nice (I bought mine at a local herb shop and have to add garlic and salt but I think there are lots of recipes online).  I also like New Mama Bottom Spray.  It's cooling and has a nice scent.  The first aid spray and tucks the hospital provide are nice, but I liked having something that smelled nice and made me feel good.

For the nipples: I like the Soothies they gave me at the hospital but I really like the Medela Soft Shells they gave me.  I wouldn't wear them out in public because they are basically plastic domes but they are perfect for home while I work through beginner's tenderness.. Air dry makes a world of difference.

For baby:  Don't think I have enough experience to offer up advice on this yet...

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers...link to your chart!

snapped this a couple of hours ago after a feeding...

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 6 months 2 weeks (almost)

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Ashton is starting to reach for me when he sees me:-)

    (3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 6 month well baby check up tomorrow:-)

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books? Weekly Pregnancy Guide.

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms? Sore ta-tas..and I just had "that" feeling!

     (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)?  I felt awesome until around 34 weeks when I BLEW up and just looked yucky.

    (7) Mamas: What product/item made your life easier when getting used to life with a newborn? My Itzben helped me remember which side to nurse and how long in between we had gone for feedings. Oh and the swing...that was the only place he would sleep some days.

  • This is fun!

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  Officially 5w3d, but I'm really more like 4w5d.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  All things considered, I'm physically feeling okay.  Some lower back pain from my accident and I've been having cramping/aching/twinges around my lady parts, which I've heard/read is normal at this point.  I think I need to take time to take care of my mental/emotional state.  I'm still processing everything that happened last week.  The doubts and fears about making it through this 1st tri creep into my mind quite often, but I'm trying to take it one day at a time and enjoy the moment (sage advice given to me by some of you).

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  Next appt is tomorrow morning!  I'm supposed to get an u/s.  Not sure if it's "normal" to get one this early, but my OB scheduled it once I told her about the car accident.

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books?  Can't wait to read everyone's responses!

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms?  I was sick with a nasty cold for about 9 or 10DPO so it's hard to tell.  I honestly believed I wasn't KU, which made the BFP even that much more surprising.  My nips started hurting Monday night.  We'll see if m/s kicks in during the next couple of weeks.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? (I'm going to make this a new standard question, so you can add questions for the next round or just skip this one if you don't have any.)  Will get back to you on this....

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?  I didn't get to post when we were TTC, but you can kind of see how it went down in my chart.  I was concerned because I wasn't having any EWCM to speak of until this BFP cycle.  I had tried a couple of things to encourage EWCM, but they didn't work and EWCM showed up once I stopped trying.  Stick out tongue

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers...link to your chart!  My Chart

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  18 weeks, 4 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Much better than a few days ago!  I caught a nasty cold this past weekend.  Breathing has been a challenging, and the neti pot had been my best friend.  But as of yesterday I'm starting to clear up slightly.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  OMG!  One week from today, we'll know if we're Team Blue or Team Pink (hopefully!)  I'm so excited!

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books?  I like "Your Pregnancy: Week by Week" best.  I have several, but that the one I read regularly.

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms?  Definitely the boobs!  They hurt for two days before I POAS.  Then fatigue.  The nausea didn't start for a few weeks.

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)? I like feeling pregnant for the most part, but I'm a little self-conscious since two other girls that I work with are pregnant, too.  They are little tiny things (probably under 5'5" and weighed 115 before pg).  They both have the cutest little bumps, just like basketballs under their shirts.  Whilst I (5'11", weighed, um a little more) have gotten a fat ass and my tummy is kind of wide and all over so far.  It's hard for me not to compare.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? (I'm going to make this a new standard question, so you can add questions for the next round or just skip this one if you don't have any.)  I want to know what thing that you're not supposed to do/have during pregnancy that you did/had anyway (either by accident or on purpose because you couldn't stand it anymore or thought it was a silly rule?)

Hey Lori!  I had been stalking both yours and Lisa's charts on FF.  You and J took 2 cycles, too!  And I think your BFP cycle was a little out of whack...so was mine (later-than-usual ovulation and my nasty cold).  Smile

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 29w2d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  I feel great though its starting to get difficult switching sleeping positions, Baby is measuring in the 75%. I have gestational diabetes but so far my numbers are good and I haven't had to change my meals too much

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next appt is in two weeks not sure when my next u/s will be.

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books? What to expect when you're expecting and Baby Bargains. Those are the only books I found I needed.

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms? Bloat....I really didn't have any pg symtoms at all....my clothes just felt snug around my waist very early on.

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)? I definitaly don't feel sexy but I do think I look cute in a funny sort of way. Everytime I look in the mirror I am amazed at how big my belly is. I'm sure I'll feel different in several weeks as I get bigger.

  • SO FUNNY to read what everyone likes to put their babies in.

Sarah loves the sleep outfits with elastic at the bottom... I HATE those!!! They roll up and expose her legs when she's sleeping and then she gets cold, or they get bunched up in the swaddle or sleep sack.

And Lori likes the fleece footies... We NEVER use them because Alexa overheats in them!

And someone else said they like the zipper sleepers... I prefer snaps!

So anyway... To the pregnant ladies: Just goes to show that you have to wait and see what YOU like... Try it all out and you'll find your own groove.

We've tried the sleep sacks and liked them for awhile but Bella is SO tall that her legs get scrunched, even in the "one size" ones.

Out elastic ones never roll up! But again she's so tall so we have her in 9 month ones right now and we roll up the arms.

I HATE the zipper ones because they only zipper down one leg and I feel like I tug and pull on her so much to get the other leg (the one not in the zipper side) in and out... They drive me nuts!!

Bella hates to be swaddled so that's been out of the question since about week one :)

Goes to show you different things work for different people :) My SIL hates receiving blankets and I use them all the time for wiping her face, covering when nursing, under her head when she's BF (she spills) and more. We laugh because we both love completely different things!

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 35w4d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Starting to groan a lot when I have to get up/down and do things like wash dishes or do laundry.  I can see how I'll be ready to pop this baby out in the next few weeks!  Oh, and my maternity leave has officially begun!!!!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next Tuesday for the first internal check.

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books? Baby Bargains, The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy, Birthing from Within and Husband Coached Childbirth.

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms? Breast tenderness and fatigue.

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)? I think I look pretty good for being so pregnant and I'm happy I've been able to keep up my regular look and style.  But I don't FEEL particularly sexy, which is too bad b/c I look at other pregnant women and think their bodies are awesome.

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Seems like I got huge overnight.  I think I have felt one of my boobs ever so slightly leaking during the night...is it not to early for that??

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? March 23 for GD test

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books? Baby Bargains and then weekly email updates from the bump and other websites I guess i signed up for.

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms? well I ws IVF so they monitored me really close but nothing until a few weeks later when my boobs started hurting

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)?  I was feeling pretty good until I gained a bunch of weight this month, now I am a little self conscious.  Oh and then I meet a girl that is 3 weeks behind me and she hardly has a bump at all...compared to her I was huge:(

    (7) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? (I'm going to make this a new standard question, so you can add questions for the next round or just skip this one if you don't have any.)

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

LO is 3 months, 2 wks

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

I'm still tired.  He's starting to roll onto his side and back to his back repeatedly.  We started adding some rice cereal into his bottles and that is helping the reflux issues some.  We also changed his meds last week.   FYI: prevacid for babies is expensive!!!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

His next appt is in March for his 4 month checkup & vax.

    (4) What are your favorite/most helpful pregnancy books?

Mayo Clinic guide to pregnancy was my favorite - other than that, it was the babycenter weekly emails

    (5) What were your earliest pregnancy symptoms?

    sore breasts, no period lol

    (6) How do you feel about the way you look pregnant (some women feel sexy, others feel awkward, etc.)?

I felt awkward and heavy.  I felt better when I started wearing maternity clothes and people could tell I was pregnant and not just fatter though!

Mamas: What product/item made your life easier when getting used to life with a newborn?

my mom.  pain meds.  picking one brand of bottle and sticking with it (we picked dr brown's).  one piece sleepers
it's hard.  so hard.  just know that ahead of time and accept it - that will make it easier! :)  And when your LO smiles, it'll be the best moment ever!  i also think if I would have kept walking or kept in shape more while pg that it would have helped me carry him around more.
