All Hawaiian islands are under a tsunami warning today. Sirens are susposed to sound a 6am HST, and civil defense is expected to order/recommend evacuations of costal areas at that time. No word (of course) on possible size of the wave, but it is expected here just after 11 am.

Keep your fingers crossed that this is just a baby tsunami!
Our home is fine (we're on Kaneohe Bay and way up a hill side). Will probably still have to go into work tomorrow, since the mall is not in a costal area and thus does not need to be evacuated. Ought to be a ton of fun. Wish me luck with that, too.
Went to local Safeway for water, more batteries, etc., and it was busy, not crazy, but a ton of people for 230am, thats for sure. They had plenty of water when I was there, but someone posted a photo on the news website of the last few cases of water at the store.
Hope all of this is for nothing!

My parents were evacuated, they live in Kailua near the beach. Crazy!!
They volunteer with the Red Cross so they got a call before the siren went off asking them to man the shelter at Kailua HS. My mom was in a mile-long line for gas when I talked to her!
She said that it's supposed to be 8 feet waves hitting the Big Island (Hilo) but only 1 1/2 feet hitting Oahu, mostly North Shore side.
Supposed to hit 11 am Hawaii time.

you are so right Nicole. Right now it's just a waiting game. We are currently waiting for my grandparents to join us. They live in an evacuation zone and family are coming up to our house. I actually work in a tsunami zone so I am sooo glad that today isn't a school day. I don't think that trying to evacuate with 23 7 year olds would be all that easy...
Lesley! Yes! I was thinking that same thing, too! If this had to happen, I'm glad it was on a weekend. I can't imagine the chaos if this was on a weekday. So glad your family will be joining you shortly. We'll hope for the best, but even the best forecasting models could be wrong when it comes to Mother Nature.
So scary. I think it is good to be cautious. Tsunamis are so weird... you just don't know what will come.
If you haven't seen the whole story, Chile had an 8.8 earthquake
http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20100227/LT.Chile.Earthquake/
The article says that 53 nations and territories are subject to tsunami warnings.
I feel so bad for the people in Chile and so worried for all of the people near the water.
Much love to everyone in Hawaii. Be safe.
