Might be moving to Wake County - where to rent?

Hi ladies,

This might be jumping the gun a little, but I have a job interview next week in Wake Forest, and I have a very good feeling about things. If this works out, DH and I would be relocating from the Charlotte area this spring.

DH will likely go back to school this fall, and he is looking at the computer programs at Wake Technical College. He will just be working part time somewhere random while he's in school, so we can be very flexible in where we live.

We want to rent a house somewhere where we'll each have under a 45 minute drive, which might be hard since I'll be on the north side of Raleigh and he'll be on the south side. We don't have kids, and want to be close to stores/restaurants. Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Might be moving to Wake County - where to rent?

  • Hi, I live in Wake Forest and I know there are a few houses for rent in my neighborhood, but they may be large for what your needs. I HIGHLY recommend Wakefield Glen apartment homes they are so nice, and they have town homes as well. We lived there for 2 years before buying our house. I took a brief class at Wake Tech, and while it is a drive, it was doable during rush hour. I worked in Cary and commuted from WF and it took about 45 minutes. I LOVE living in WF, so if you can convince you DH, I would look here, it is a great place to live, and the homes and rentals are more affordable than N. Raleigh, Cary, etc.

  • I would look to living in Midtown area if you want to be more central to both Wake Forest and Wake Tech. I think living as far north as Wake Tech might be a commute for your DH to make on a regular basis if u have the option of living in a more central location. I'd look on craigslist or goggle homes for sale in Raleigh. I grew up around the creedmoor, lynn rd. area and its an affordable area depending on where u look but I dont know what u are looking to spend on rent or what u spend now. But anywhere in that centralized area that they now call "Midtown" would be a good start and see if its in  your price point.

  • I'm not sure about houses, but when I first moved here, I lived in Mariner's Crossing in northwest Raleigh. It's right near Crabtree Valley Mall and real close to highway 70 (Glenwood Ave) and 540. You could easily take 540 to Wake Forest and your DH could take 70/Glenwood through downtown to 401/South Saunders Rd. Wake Tech is off 401. There are some other apt complexes in that area too, but I'm not sure of the names. I live fairly close to Wake Tech and it take me about 30 minutes to get to Crabtree. I loved living in that area. There's a bunch of stuff around there besides the mall.

Another option might be places off Capital Blvd, but I would be careful in some areas out that way. That would pretty much be a straight shot to work and school for you both.

That's the area of Mariner's Crossing too. I didn't know it was now called midtown. :)

Also wanted to add that when DH and I now go to Wake Forest, it's definitely a drive. I would say it's a good 45 minutes (with weekend traffic) and with traffic during commute times, it could be a lot worse.

  • If that is midtown than that is a great area. I liked Mariner's Crossing when we looked at it. That is a very nice area, we also looked there, but ended up in Wakefield.

  • I live right off of I-40 near Cary Town Center and we are trying to sub-lease our apartment (we just closed on a house on Thursday). ?Our lease ends in July and it's brand new (since we moved in) 2 bedrooms, approx. 1100 sq. ft., stainless steel appliances and granite countertops, garden tub, washer/dryer included. ?It's on the first floor but it has a balcony (there is an apartment below it that enters from the back). ?The community is gated and has a huge pool, gym, and billards room. ?Crossroads is really close for shopping and WF and Wake tech are probably about 30-45 min. commute depending on the time of day. ?Rent is about $800/mo. but we'd be willing to cut a deal to get out of our lease! :) ?PM me if you are interested.
