I know we've done this once before, but I'm all neurotic and want to make sure I'm not forgetting anything. :-P The stuff we've done/need to do isn't as critical - I'm more concerned with making sure we have (or are in the process of getting) everything we need.
STUFF WE HAVE
- carseats x2
- stroller
- crib x2
- mattresses x2
- changing table
- rocking chair
- fitted crib sheets (have 2 and a friend has said she'll give me a bunch more that she doesn't need anymore)
- crib bedding sets (yeah I know, not a necessity but I ordered 'em anyway!)
- clothing (tons, ranging in size from newborn-6months)
- swaddling blankets in muslin, cotton, etc. - we have a million!
- bibs (only 5 - thought we'd wait and see if we have heavy droolers)
- bathing stuff (shampoo, soap, hairbrush, etc.) EDIT: as well as a nasal aspirator, thermometer and nail clippers
STUFF WE STILL NEED
- mattress covers
- diaper bag (looking at this one)
- sling/wrap/carrier - going to DIY two Moby wraps
- diapers & wipes (both disposable - we're doing that for the first few weeks - and cloth)
- wet bag
- changing mat covers (or something to use - towels, cloth flats, whatever)
- hangers for baby clothes
- breast pump (just a manual at this stage, thinking of this one)
- bottles
- baby monitor (undecided on type...if we get something like the super popular AngelCare, we'd need two which makes it $$$$$ so I'm thinking of just going with old fashioned sound only)
- nightlight
- bathtub (or we might just go with the sink)
- nursing pillow (this one - it's designed for dual feeding)
STUFF WE'VE DONE
- painted
STUFF WE STILL NEED TO DO
- paint and reupholster the rocking chair
- buy and put up the wall decal
- put up a few DIY framed prints
- make mobiles
- put some shelves/drawers in the closet
Part of the reason I'm doing this list again is because MIL wants to take me shopping for some of the stuff we still need (woohoo! thanks MIL!). A fair few of the items - like the diaper bag, breast pump, that kind of thing - I will still be buying myself since I want specific brands and will need to get them online, but other things (like disposable diapers, hangers, bottles, etc.) can go on the MIL list.
Re: BR: help me with my checklist...again...
just a few that popped in my mind,...
infant Tylenol
booger sucker (the hospital should give you one but I have a back up)
little nose saline..we use it daily
We also have a first aid kit just in case.
OH and you will need plenty of changing pad covers...little boys pee though everything..even a towel:-)
I'll post more when I think of them
Diaper rash cream
Infant tylenol
Nasal aspirator
Thermometer
Nail clipper
White noise machine
Bouncer or swing
I was actually wondering about this. I have a wet bag on the list for CDs...do I need a actual diaper pail for the amount of time we'll be using disposables (I estimate 6 weeks or so)? Or can I just use a regular ole trashcan with some liners in it? (Someone gave me a box of liners at my shower, so we have those.)
I really recommend the AngelCare monitor...it keeps me sane! I have read that if you have two that they can interefere with eachother, sometimes. They do have two channels though, so I am not sure how often that actually happens.
Bibs - also good for spit-up...Libby has started that this past week...so we have some terry/PUL backed bibs that are great for that!
Burp cloths - could be cloth diapers...no need for "fancy" burb cloths. We have a bunch of terry ones and I love them! Again, now that she's spitting up we keep a stack of them strategically placed about the house.
Pacifiers - Libby won't take them (yet or maybe never?) but we have a collection - 2 MAM, 2 Soothies and 2 Nuk for her try...I don't want her to be dependent upon a paci but if it helps her soothe herself in the car, etc. I am okay with it
Flannel lap pads - LOVE these! We use them for EVERYTHING...on the changer as a changing pad for the diaper bag, on my bed under baby while she nurses and to catch my leaky boobs, etc.
Storage bags/trays for breast milk - if you plan to build a freezer stash. I started mine this week.
Sound machine - white noise = baby crack!
Blanket sleeper...in case they don't like to be swaddled. Libby is not into being swaddled.
Gripe Water/Gas Drops
Humidifier (if you need it...we're running the heater day and night and have a cool mist humidier)

Imo, you don't need bibs until they start teething = drooling, about 3 mo
I would also skip baby hangers for clothes. New clothes come with hangers and the other stuff you can just put them in drawers or bins.
If you are bfing, dr will tell you to get Tri-Vi-Sol supplement drops
Agree with pps - Infant Tylonol is good to have on hand, and diaper rash cream too (we like Triple Paste)
Also - pack of cloth diaper prefolds for BURP CLOTHS
And SEVERAL pacificers. We have one that I keep in the diaper bag and one that I keep in the nursery and then an extra one.
I am a BIG believer of the miracle blanket...
Instead of a humidifier, you can use Pediacare VICKS plug-ins...
If you are bfing & expressing for bottles, then you'll need bags to freeze the milk, a bottle brush, a bottle drying rack, maybe a basket for washing small stuff in your dishasher
I like Boogie Wipes for crusty/runny noses... And we use the Little Noses Saline drops all the time
I would recommend getting a plastic bath tub with an infant insert.. It's hard to wash a baby who can't hold their head in the sink.. Ours only cost $17 so I think that's worth it.
Baby Monitor - I love that ours has video... That way I can put her down AWAKE and watch as she fusses and puts herself to sleep.
That's all I can think of for now! HTH!

For this, we're thinking about saving money by hooking up one of our extra laptops to a webcam we already have and having the baby on Skype/Google Voice/Yahoo Messenger (they all have video now), with super secure settings, blocking everyone except for us (on a call with us whenever we need it) and we can just watch and hear the baby that way.
We used disposables for the first week or so and still use them at night (until he fits into his BG or FBs). We used just a regular trash can (no lid) for the sposies, and with EBF poop, it doesn't really smell. For the CDs, we have a trash can with a lid and a wet bag with elastic to go inside. Unless your wet bag hangs somewhere, you'll want a pail of some sort for it.
i think between what you have listed and what is posted above my post, you've got it covered....just a few notes based on what others said
miss A is a big drooler and starter blowing bubbles and drooling very early on, so we need bibs almost right away. i would see if you get any as gifts, or get them somewhere cheap like TJMaxx or Ross - i know you don't have those stores but i'm sure you have something similar there???
i really like the miracle blanket too, it's much more fool proof than regular blankets used for swaddling
i got a few paci's for miss A but you don't want to introduce them too early on if you are BFing and now that my supply is established and her latch is good, she really doesn't need one b/c she only fusses when there is something actually wrong that we need to address....so, you could wait on the paci too. plus you get free ones at the hospital
and if they're like the ones used the US hospitals, babies love them and parents come back asking for them b/c for some reason babies like them better than other ones
for sposies we just put them in our bathroom trash can at the beginning and when it was full we'd take the trash out. no stink really...though she was going through so many dipes a day and it was a small trash can that it didn't sit there long. for the CDs we have a step lid trash can that we use with a planet wise pail liner
i really prefer the video monitor over a sound monitor b/c it helps to see if she is fussing and falling asleep or fussing and wide awake. if she's out right crying then i come get her and it doesn't matter anyway....but at other times it can be really handy.
flannel crib sheets will be warmer and help prevent them from waking as soon as you put them down to sleep. or, you can use an electric blanket or warm water bottles to heat the crib before putting them down. helps in the middle of the night when you are trying to get back to sleep
otherwise, i'd use your time off to cook some freezer meals so you can have those handy the first month

Agree with this... I used to use an electric heat pad that I would put in her bassinet while I got up to nurse her, then remove before putting her down so that she would go from the warmth of my arms to the warmth of her bassinet. In the crib, I use Jersey cotton sheets, which are very soft. :-)

This is something I'd forgotten about, but white noise machines are $$$$$ in Australia. Instead, I've downloaded high quality white noise mp3s from here and am going to load them onto an iPod. I'm cheap lol.
