Recommend your vacuum!

DH bought a rainbow vac (against my wishes) when we were dating.  So now we are the "proud" owners of a pain-in-the-ass vacuum that cleans well but is back breaking to use.  I need an upright vacuum that will work on carpet and wood flooring.

I thought I wanted a dyson but after reading the reviews I'm not so sure anymore.  I am open to any brand so if you like your vac please let me know the pros & cons.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Recommend your vacuum!

  • We have a Dyson Pet vac and I love it. Granted it was a hand-me-down so it's not in perfect condition. One of the parts is missing so I can't use the attachments, so I don't know how well that part works. I use it on my carpet, hardwood, and tile floors and it works great.

My last vaccum I had started losing suction after only a year. I think it was a Bissell or Dirt Devil. We got the Dyson used and have had it for over 2 years now with no suction problems and we have 2 dogs that shed a lot.

Cons: It is large and kind of heavy, not easy to lug up and down stairs but we have a ranch. Also, it doesn't swivel like the new ones so it can be difficult to get into tight corners. I usually use my hand vac around trim and spaces the vac can't get.

Whenever this one goes (which I think will be a while) I'm definitely getting another Dyson.

  • Dyson Animal-IT'S AMAZING!!
  • I definitely agree with the Dyson Animal rec!  My parents bought DH & I a refurbed one (straight from Dyson) for quite a bit less....for Christmas.  It looks in perfect condition, and we absolutely love it.  We had a good vacuum, but with a black cat, on cream carpet.....we seriously didn't even realize the real color of our carpet until we used our Dyson Wink  Vacuuming has never been so much fun....I feel like I'm really accomplishing something when I see all of that dirt and hair in the canister..LOL
  • I am another Dyson lover!  We have the Dyson Animal DC25.  It is the one with the purple ball that swivels.  I have never loved a vacuum so much in my life.  I am borderline obsessive about it!  Ha ha!  I vacuum every other day or so and am amazed at how much stuff it sweeps up!  Kind of disgusting when you think about it, but amazing at the same time!  LOL!  And, I love that mine swivels so I can get into tight corners and spaces.  Also, it does a great job on hardwood/laminate/tile floors.  I think they are definitely worth the money!
  • Defiantly a dyson! I can't even beginning to tell you how much easier vacuuming is. Kylie's hair gets all over the place and it's nice not to have to go over the same spot 3x's just to get all of the hair. Plus, I love the way it swivels around everything. So worth the $. Plus if you get it at BB&B, use a 20% off coupon, they never expire =)

  • We are relatively new owners of the Dyson Animal and we LOVE IT!  It's pricey but well worth the money.  I've never had the rug so clean along with our hard wood, kitchen, and it's great on the stairs as well.
  • I've had my Dyson Animal for over two years now and it still works as well as the first day we got it. I adore it and would buy another one in a heartbeat.
  • I made DH get up on Black friday last year to go out with me at 4 AM to target to get our dyson animal - it was on SUPER sale and totally worth the money!  It sucks up cat litter and dog hair like a champ and even DH has said how much the new vacuum was worth it.
