Homemade Pizza Poll

I finally got TJs pizza dough (the whole wheat kind) this weekend and made pizza Saturday night with mozz cheese, feta cheese and spinach, along with TJs pizza sauce. .It seemed to be lacking something and I think the whole wheat dough was throwing me off. I'm not use to it yet. But anyway....

What's your favorite pizza sauce?

  • We usually just use spaghetti sauce for our red sauce on pizza.  I like any of the Classico brand versions.  We tried the EarthFare brand last night and it was really good. 

    We usually add some pesto to our toppings.  We just sort of drizzle it around the pizza once we have added all the toppings.  Other toppings we have used are red onion, crushed garlic, mushrooms, broccoli, roasted red peppers, and bell peppers.  

  • lately i like doing a buffalo chicken pizza for something different. you use a buffalo sauce instead of pizza sauce, and top with cooked chicken chopped up and mozzarella. then drizzle with ranch with it comes out the oven.

    I often make buffalo chicken pizza but do it a little differently - spread ranch on crust and top with chicken that's been tossed in buffalo sauce. I've also used ceasar dressing (the non-creamy kind) to make chicken ceasar pizza. If I do regular pizza, I usually use regular spaghetti sauce (bertolli, usually) as the red sauce. I'll occasionally make it myself using canned tomato sauce & some parm & spices, but I don't think it's really any better than the spaghetti sauce.

  • We've tried the whole wheat dough from TJ's and we always seem to burn it to the pan no matter what we do, but with the regular dough our pizzas come out perfect.

     As far as toppings, we usually get the pizza sauce from TJ's and find it pretty good. My favorite pizza is Ham and Pineapple and DH loves Barbecue Chicken so we'll typically do a half and half pizza :)

  • DH and I really love Newmans Own Tomato Basil sauce, but don't mind the Earth Fare version either. 

    Favorite toppings--I like a BBQ version of KB's Buffalo chicken pizza--I'll either roast some chicken and/or chop up some rotisserie chicken breast, use bbq sauce as the main sauce, then sautee some sweet onion, spread around a little mozzarella and let it melt.  I do always brush my crust first with olive oil though.

    And FWIW, I just can't get into the WW pizza dough either.  I've never tried the TJs brand 'cause we don't have it here in the Triad, but I've tried other WW doughs a few times "wanting" to like it...and just don't--the texture is off and the taste is just SO much different that I just can't give up my regular dough.  :( 

  • I'm not a big sauce fan but I make a homemade chuncky sauce with tomatoes, tomato sauce, seasoning and ground meat.

    Top with spinage, cheese, onion, olives. YUM.

    Okay, now I have to go make a pizza and it was NOT on the menu this week. Darn you.

  • We like the TJs pizza sauce, and even the Kroger brand sauce is pretty good.  DH makes buffalo chicken pizza (slathering the crust with buffalo sauce and ranch, then topping with buffalo dipped chicken).   I like to make pizza with mozzerella, pepperoni, goat cheese, and green peppers!  Yum!  I love goat cheese on pizza!
