Happy March

So tired today.  I was hoping that March would bring some warmer weather with it, but it looks like we're getting more snow on Wednesday and then a huge storm on Sunday.  I'm hoping 'they' are wrong.

H's class got cancelled and rescheduled, so he was home all weekend which means I got close to nothing done that I had planned.  Saturday we took some friends to Bar Ferdinand (they loved it) and then we went over to PJ's for some drinks.  I can't believe how packed it was, but I guess it's because Nova was playing.

Sunday we had another open house and it went really well.  We had a couple that just moved to the area come through and they really like the place.  They're actually renting an apartment within walking distance.  We put out a PSE&G statement from July and December (we got new windows in April) and the commented how the apartment is so much more expensive to heat.  The second group that came through actually had a scheduled showing with the place next door that's for sale, but they stopped by afterwards.  It was a girl, her parents and her realtor; her husband was at work.  I wasn't there, but H said that they really liked the place and the realtor was willing to work with us.  He said they asked alot of questions and they stood outside for awhile and talked.

Pretty good weekend overall, but it's left me completely wiped.  How was everyone else's weekend??

Re: Happy March

  • Good luck with selling your house!!!

Yay for March!! They said we are only going to get a little slush on tuesday so I'm good with that....and I didn't hear of any storm on sunday, they actuaully just said we are going to get into the 50's this weekend!!!  They were talking about rumors that have been going around about a big strom on March 8th and they said it's not true.

We had a good weekend....we went to Tre Famiglia in Haddonfield Friday night for dinner, Saturday we ran around a little and then just hung in and watched a movie and Sunday we made a big pot of gravy and then went to my parents for dinner so I got to see my niece again.  She was being fussy so I took her and walked around with her and she fell asleep, I have to say that having a baby fall asleep on your chest is SOOO relaxing :)

We are having my family over this weekend for my parents birthday and this will be the first time my dog is around a baby....any tips?  I really don't think he's going to be interested in her but we'll see

  • Your dog will be interested in the baby.  Babies have a lot of smells going on with them which makes dogs super interested.  As long as Oscar gets to smell the baby that comes into our house he's fine.  Although he has been around babies since he was a puppy.  He loves kids though and plays with our friends 9 month old daughter all the time.  She crawls to him and he brings her his toys then they both stick them into their mouthes.

This weekend we had to help my SIL move out of her apartment before her boyfriend got home.  We got the whole place packed up and moved in record time.  We are all super stoked that she finally left him.

Other then that we went food shopping and we bought a piece of art for the diningroom and we went to the gym.  My butt hurts from the little bike seat on the exercise bike.

I also made the greatest cookies EVER!  Recipe is in my blog.

  • I just looked at the weather for next week and it looks like rain.  Weather in the 50's is going to feel so warm.  Can't wait!

Lily--those cookies look amazing!  You should make them for bunco if we ever have it.

  • Nat: He's been around kids but not as young as my niece....we figured we'd let him smell her out and go from there. He doesn't bite or is not aggressive in any way, he just tends to get hyper but that's only with my DH. I'm actually very interested to see what he does...I'm just hoping my FBIL doesn't turn into the pain in the ass that he is and act like my dog is going to bite the babies head off. Oh and I saw your post about the cookies on facebook.....they sound AMAZING!!!!!!
  • Izzy, you scared me! I hope 50s is right. Yesterday felt SO nice and it was only in the low 40s. I really need it to warm up because I'm trying my hardest not to buy winter maternity clothes, but have managed to stock up on spring stuff. Bring on the sun!

Our dog had one freak-out with my nephew the first time he was over and I believe it was a combo of the crying and jealousy. He was just barking up a storm, not dangerous or anything. But since my niece was born a few months after (she's 2.5 now), he's been amazing. He tried to pet her once when she was being changed, but that's the extent of anything inappropriate. Now he lets her put all her costume jewelry all over him. It's adorable.

One tip I was given recently was to bring something that smells like the baby to the dog before it meets the baby. Maybe your sister can give you a blanket or something to bring home this week?

  • Izzy - that's good you're getting some interest in the house!

I'm so tired this morning. I think Jack is still teething - pretty sure it will never end. He was up at 3:50 and we finally brought him in our bed close to 5. So I may have fallen asleep for another 45 min.

We had a good weekend. My college friends came for lunch Saturday - I made lentil soup and stromboli, plus chocolate ricotta pie. Yesterday my MIL came to visit, then we had dinner at my grandparents.

I get to work from home tomorrow, but I have to go to the dentist for 2 fillings. Ugh..

  • Remember when your dog meets the new baby and does well to praise him.  He needs to learn what is positive baby behavior and what isn't.  Just treat it like any other behavior you want him to learn.  It's also better to leash him to restrain him then to hold onto his collar.

Also so you know ahead of time he is probably going to lick her and sniff her for a good five minutes.  Tell your sister to not bring any squeeky baby toy because your dog will eat it.  Baby toys and dog toys are remarkably similar.

My four year old niece dresses Oscar up and takes him for "walks" around the house to show everyone how pretty she made me.  She drew on him with crayons once too and all he did was lay there and roll over so she could draw on his belly.

  • I'm home today because I feel like @$$. I hate being sick... this better end soon!

Izzy, I'm totally drooling over the fact that you went to Bar Ferdinand. I haven't been there in a while. Totally craving it!...

We're leaving for Ireland on th 10th - and it's finally in the 10-day forecast. Can't wait :)

  • I hope we don't have another storm. My driveway can't take much more! It's not paved and is a muddy mess. My car slides all over getting into it and I am just waiting to get stuck. We are waiting for our buyers credit to have it paved. Hopefully that check comes soon.

  • I will not complain if we get more snow.  Winter only happens once a year and usually it is mild around here.  We have all gotten spoiled by mild winters!

I would probably just put the dog away while the baby is over.  I am sure some of the other ladies remember that horrifying story of the dog that bit the baby's toe off last year.  Wasn't there also a dog that killed a baby and took it to the woods?  Maybe I am imagining that one though.  Anywho, these dogs were just regular housedogs I believe that worked on instinct and not rationale. If you allow your dog to meet the baby do what someone else suggested by introducing one of the baby's items to the dog prior to introduction.

  • I had a busy weekend...2 bridal showers!  So both afternoons were taken up with those.  While they were both nice, I didn't get to anything around the house which is frustrating.

I love the snow, but do not want more snow right now or rain.  Everything is way too wet and muddy and needs to dry up first.

  • I could easily just lock him up but he will be around babies when we have one so I don't want to just hide him from it.  I would NEVER leave a baby alone with a dog in the house (yeah I heard of the dog taking the baby into the woods, scary!!).   I know he's going to sniff her a lot and we got him one of his favorite bones so he can have those as a reward.

    Thanks for all the tips!!

Erin: Have fun on your trip!!!
