feisty

thoughts on this?

i can't decide if it's good or not.  he's on CA natural right now and it's time for a switch for a variety of reasons.

  • ::butting in:: Does J have D problems on every food? The only food that my dog has done well on for more than a few months is a prescription food that's 1* on that website. I hate to have her on such a low quality food, but we tried to wean her off and had to put her back on it when she was still halfway through transitioning off since she had to get her anal glands emptied twice in 2 weeks due to the soft poo. So frustrating!  You'll have to let me know if you find one that works for J.
  • ::Butting in too:: Has anyone tried that Blue Buffalo (I think you can get it from PetSmart)? I keep seeing commercials about it. It's only three stars, but is recommended on dogfoodanalysis.com. Right now, I have Bruno on this brand called Apex, which isn't rated, but Bruno seems to love it.
  • I haven't used Blue Buffalo, but if I remember correctly, I think Murph said she feeds it to her dogs and has been happy with it.
  • he's doing fine on CA natural, but he seems to be getting bored with it.  he had another bout of food aggression, so now eating is stressful again.  we're trying to switch up his food and just give him something different, hoping to make him more excited to eat, lessening the stress.

we're also switching from a cost perspective, there's a store near where DH works that actually works out to be cheaper than PFD, so that's a plus too.  i have it down to going back to canidae (worst case scenario), taste of the wild, merrick turducken or pot pie, and whole earth farms.  i'm also carefully watching the protein content, i don't want to send him into too much of a shock w/ significantly upping or reducing the protein or fat.

being the giant dork that i am, i made a spreadsheet last night with the cost, calories/cup, protein, fat, etc in it Embarrassed

  • Is it possible to try out different flavors on California Natural? I've heard good things about the Sweet Potato and Herring. Another food that seems to be comparable to CA is Innova. I don't know a lot about Merck's, but if you think that it would be beneficial for him, you could always try it and if he seems to do well on that, go back and forth between Merck's and CA. Just an idea. :)
