NER: Vent Old Navy!

I am short and have to by shorter pants or have my pants tailored. So, buying pants is always an ordeal for me. But I have figured out through the years that Levi's makes short length jeans - yea! And Old Navy has decent work slacks that come is short, regular, or tall.

Well - Old Navy has now decided that it will only carry the short and long slacks online! Now of course I can buy the pants online but I would rather be able to try them on at the store and buy them there. I don't want to pay shipping charges and have the package sit outside on my step all day to be rained on or stolen.

Grrr!  I am so annoyed!

Please convince me shopping online is the way to go or does anyone else know of good shorter length pants?

  • No advice really, but just wanted to say that I hate shopping for pants more than anything else. ?Well, bathing suits are a close second....

  • Do you have an Ann Taylor Loft near you?  They carry regular and petite length pants.  Loooove their stuff.
  • I also need short pants and always shop at oldnavy.com. ?It works well! ?And you can always return them in store if you don't want to ship back.

They've also stopped carrying any plus sizes in store. ?So if you're over a 16, you're SOL. ?I think both of these things (not carrying the lengths or plus sizes) is crappy.?

  • Does some of that vary by store?  In Omaha, most stores (not just Old Navy) didn't stock anything below size 8.  In Boulder, I was often able to find the smaller sizes, but the few plus sizes they stocked would always end up in clearance.

At least there's usually something to try on, even if it's the wrong length of color, so that you better know what to order online.

  • They have a decent return policy, so you should be fine ordering online. I'd probably go in store and see how the particular style you're thinking about buying fits (length aside) before ordering, though. But that's just me. I've had terrible luck with online shopping so I'm a bit jaded.

I think this whole thing is new. ?I just bought short dress pants last year, and now it's all been done away with.?

  • Yep - it's new. Penneys and Kohls also have stopped carrying a lot of their petite pants. I know I can get pants hemmed but it costs more money and time. It's just so aggravating.

  • After two disastrous Old Navy online orders, I have vowed never to buy online from them again. My issue is that everything appears nicer online than in IRL. And their construction is is really shoddy, but you never really know this unless you can feel and see the item. I second Ann Taylor for short pants (another shortie in the house!).
  • ditto Ann Taylor.  Their petites fit pretty well.

I'm a super-shortie (as in, less than 5'), so I still have to get petite pants hemmed most of the time, but Ann Taylor's I just have to wear a bit of a heel, which is really nice.

4'11" (and 3/4ths!!!).  Deending on your size, have you tried Limited Too?  I know they're kids clothes, but my 5'4" SIL wears a 1/2 or 3/4 depending on the store, and she fits in the size 16's at Limited Too.  I'm a double 00, and I can wear the 12s.  So if you're anywhere in that range, it's worth trying out!  I was surprised to find that they weren't too short.

  • Ditto Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft for good petites.  Plus they have vanity sizing, so you'll probably drop a size! ;)

I've never lived by a Nordstrom, but I feel like I've heard they had free tailoring.  Is that true?

Lastly, yes, Sibil - stores will only carry the sizes they believe will sell in that region based on previous sales.  Of course, sometimes they can be morAns, send 1 4P, 2 6P, 3 8P, 3 10P, 3 12P, 2 14P not realizing that the only people walking around the petites section are 4'11" 100 lb soaking wet little old ladies (and the 4P comfortably fit me at 5'3" 110 lb).

Sorry for the tangent - I'm fully convinced the buyers for the department store I used to work at were utterly incompotent.

My guess is the reason why Old Navy switched them to online only for all stores is because while they were selling enough to keep making them, the sales weren't predictable.  Wait for a sale and then buy a bunch online to make up for the shipping. ;)

  • Gap's ankle cut pants are the only ones that fit me perfectly length wise. ?I've never tried Old Navy's pants, but they are the same company, so maybe Gap will work?
  • Ugh, I'm sorry.

This probably isn't helping, but I ordered a bunch of maternity clothes from Old Navy online and they apparently got stolen off my front porch. Old Navy refunded my money, but would not refund my shipping charges!! So I had to pay like $10 for something I never even got. I was not happy.

You should contact the shipping company.  If you have your confirmation, it would probably say whether it was USPS, UPS, FedEx, or DHL.  I feel like they should refund you for a delivery that didn't make it to you.
