I am in the middle of planning a trip there for the end of June-beginning of July. What the must go places or things to see? We are flying into Athens, spending 5 days in Crete then hitting up Santorini and Mykonos. Any help or suggestions would be great!
Re: Anyone been to Greece?
I have been to Greece twice and your itinerary sounds perfect. Athens is nice to see from a historical standpoint but it is big, loud, and dirty. This is where all of your major site seeing will be. Temple of Zeus, Acropolis, etc. Mykonos is definitely a place to let loose and Santorini has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. There isn't much "sight seeing" to do on the islands but everywhere you turn it will be a postcard. I would suggest visiting a monastery too if you are near one...very beautiful and mystical. Oh and I would suggest renting a scooter as your mode of transportation on Santorini. Hmmm...can't think of anything else right now. Hope this helps. Have a wonderful trip!
We'll be stopping at Athens and Mykonos during our cruise ports of call in May. I can report back after then if you'd like.
So far I am considering the following options (no particular order and still researching) for sight-seeing:
Athens - Hop On Hop Off (HOHO) Bus, Athens Guided Walking Tour, Athens Taxi (Private Tour by Paul), Discovery Walk (Self-Guided Audio Tour Loaded to Your MP3 Player)
Mykonos - So far I have only looked at Discovery Walk (link above), on own, and cruiseline for options.
