Could you do this?

http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/02/23/real.food.challenge/index.html?hpt=Sbin

Could you no processed foods thre meals a day for 28 days? I don't know that I could do it and we don't eat a lot of processed foods. It's an experiement I want to try though. Any one else want to try it with me? Maybe start with a week?

  • I believe it's the same concept.

  • I think it'd be difficult to get used to, but not bad overall.  I think I could do it, but I know my DH would complain.

  • i have heard of this.

someone would have to give me a list of ok foods and not ok foods!

does this mean i can't eat out for 28 days? that would be the hardest part.

  • I did it something very similar for 21 days (plus no meat/fish) so I'm sure I could do it for 28. It was very tough at first but health wise I really did feel great.

  • Does any one want to try it with me for a week?

Tigerfan - you could eat out, but I think it would be really difficult. Anything that had a sauce would probably be out since you wouldn't know if there were processed things in it. I'm trying to think of something that would fly. Sashmi?

I wouldn't mind doing this for a week. I'm feeling pretty cruddy since I've been eating take out way too often lately.

    Tigerfan, basically no processed foods.

  • I eat pretty well, eating nothing processed at all would be really difficult. That lady is hardcore, making her own cheese, yogurt, and grinding her own flour.

  • Shall we try it next week then and decide how "hard core" we are going to be. I don't think it's practical to drink raw milk, but can we use salt, etc?

  • Nope.  I love mac & cheese in the blue box and Jif peanut butter waaay too much.

If anyone does do it and purges their pantry...call me.

I'll still need salt. That's a deal breaker for me. I wonder if she considers soy milk processed?

Mmmm, I love PB too. I just can't get enough of it. Although, maybe since I have to be on bedrest anyway, and I have ample time, I can take time to sit here and grind my own peanuts lol.

I would think so. In the article it says edamame is unprocessed, but tofu is considered processed. Since the milk comes from the bean, I think that constitutes processing. I drink Silk Soy Milk everyday, that would be hard for me to give up.

  • salt is fine

    soy milk is processed

Could you do without soymilk for a week? You can unprocessed peanut butter or almond butter (even yummier) at a lot of groceries.

  • I'm sure I could still do it with out the soy milk. I'm not a big milk drinker anyway but I like to cook with it when I do this type of diet. That woman is really hardcore!

  • Mental picture of Ali sitting on the couch with a pestal resting on her belly while she mortars those peanuts away, and likes the bowl clean each time :-)

  • As much as I'd love to say I can, I can't give up sugar. Also, I can't give up Lean Cuisines. :)
