An issue with the other board:
I don't think that some of the ladies over there understand how the government works.
Re: An issue with the other board:
I almost peed on myself. I am gonna get you for this POST!!
You are cracking me up!
Seriously though, they are destroying what little faith I actually have in humanity. ?I'm all about giving people the benefit of the doubt, but apparently it is not deserved. ?
?
It's nothing huge. ?I've just noticed over the past couple weeks that people tend to post things like they are a huge deal when they're really not because of a procedural rule or the like.
If the nest truly is a little slice of what America truly is, then....I am truly frightened.
ETA: Yes, the "trulys" are intentional. What can I say? I heard me some Lionel Ritchie this weekend.
You previously spoke of wanting to GBCE08. Between your posts about Euros, the economy, and this hilarious post... I forbid you from EVER doing so. Don't think I wont fly to Prague and find you.
Actually the nest is probably more highly educated than the rest of America (not saying smarter, but higher level of education on average). Even more frightening.
"what does the vice-president do?"
Maybe we should be asking that of, say, our vice-presidential candidates as well.
Do all states require students to pass an exam on the Constitution before graduating HS? I know Illinois does, but I've never been to HS anywhere else.
I'm guessing no...
?
No. ?I've never heard of such an exam. ?The?government?and civics portion of the Ohio?proficiencies?cover "how many states are there?" and "find America on a map (of North America)"
Unfortunately, I agree this is the case. Most Americans would never even bother to read an internet discussion board on the topic of politics.
"As of page 2 this might be the most boring argument ever. It's making me long for Rape Day." - Mouse
LOL. What about the US Americans who don't have maps? They must not be from Ohio. I'm laughing but I should be crying.
Can you post the lyrics to the schoolhouse rock song "I'm Just A Bill." Let's start there
In Cali this test was in Middle School. 8th grade, I believe.
?
I forgot my favorite question: ?They gave you a world map and asked, "which letter is on the state of Ohio?". ?A was on Russia, B was on Kenya, and C was on Ohio. ?
I don't remember the middle school test, but I know we were required to take civics and economics in 12th grade (1 semester each). We used the whole year for AP gov't, we just didn't get the extra grade point for the "economics" semester. Hence why I need caden to explain me the moneyz (I monkeyed my way out of econ in college too).
Agreed on mxo's point that the nest is better educated than the rest of America and that makes me want to cry.
Huh, we couldn't graduate to HS until we passed. Maybe it was a county thing?
The lack of knowledge was highlighted for me when a gal several weeks ago hadn't heard and COULDN'T BELIEVE that Lincoln was a Republican.
While I don't claim to be the most informed, I try to know when to keep my mouth shut. Compared to a few over there, that makes me a damn genius.
In OH we had the 7th grade proficiency test and the 11th grade test (I think it was those grades, right Katie?). I moved to OH in 11th grade, and they made me take both tests in order to graduate. Yes, I had to take the 7th grade test, too. With 7th graders. I was in AP classes and passed the 11th grade test fine, but they still made me do it. Fun.
?
I think it's called the 9th grade proficiencies (at least, that is when we took them), but a lot of schools don't give it until later so that their students have a better chance of passing. ?You can't graduate until you pass. ?Julie would know better than me though.?
