DH is very frustrated in his job. He's a retail manager and has tried to branch out to other, more "professional" careers (9-5, weekday types) but hasn't had luck. He has a bachelor's in Business Administration and has always (since hs) held a mgmt/supervisory type role so I would think he'd be a good prospect for employers. However, he's applied many places in various fields and has no luck. I realize many people are having very similar experiences and I thank God that at least he still has a job and isn't searching out of necessity. I feel like I really don't know much about the "job market." Does this seem like what most people are experiencing? (A situation in which it seems someone would be a great candidate but no call back.)
Here's what I originally came to ask. What are some jobs that you would think might be good for a person who does not want to interact a huge amount with customers? BUT the person isn't very knowledgeable about technology? AND the person might some day have a family to help support?
I know that's a long shot but I figured that if there's anywhere to ask this question this might be the place. I tried to make this short and there's much more than I'm putting down but any comments/ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Re: Job ideas...and sort of just a vent
Project Management. Its the bomb-diggity if you get one in a good place. I've been a PM for the last three or four years, and have been fortunate enough to experience highs and lows - and really do enjoy it either way.
That skillset is VERY versatile and you can apply just about any experience to it. For example - I majored in Russian, but used my technical experience to get in the door. I don't do anything language OR tech related, but do a lot of things with cost savings and lean methodology. For me, its good to do things with a start, middle and end rather than something operational that goes on and on and on - especially if he's good at getting results.:)
How about working for a retail property management company? I worked for a company called Westfield in S CA - they owned most of the malls in S CA and a lot throughout the US. They loved hiring people with degrees and experience in retail. Most of the malls here are owned by Simon properties... here is a list to their job site: http://www.simon.com/about_simon/hr/.
