Since I haven't updated with you ladies lately - here's some fun pregnancy updates.
I'm almost 37 weeks - I just had an appointment with the midwife today. She said his head is down really low and in good position. that made her really happy! He's definitely still very active, but the movements have slowed down. I don't particularly feel like labor is imminent - I have a feeling (and hope) that he'll wait until his due date to arrive. But, we'll see how the next couple weeks go - now its just a waiting game!
Our birth pool arrived today! We're really excited about that. I'm not planning a water birth, per se, but it will be great to have to labor in and a nice option if I do give birth in the pool. DH is so excited to have a little indoor mini-pool, he's all ready to swim laps in it.
Plus it would be fun to use after the baby arrives (in the summer as an indoor pool) - lol.
anyways, here's a bump pic! getting bigger!!!
Re: baby bump! almost 37 weeks
Are you doing a home birth or bringing the pool to the hospital?
You look adorable, and that baby looks ready to come out!!!
Liza - I know I have said this a million times but you look awesome man!!!
Also, can't believe you are gonna have this baby so soon. Time flies...

Too cute Liza...all belly!
Just at of curiosity, what made you decide on a home birth?
You are a strong woman!! Not me - I plan on being pumped full of meds the minute I get to the hospital!
I'm a wimp when it comes to pain!
I watched a couple documentaries (business of being born, pregnant in america) and read some books (pushed, ina may's guide to childbirth and a ton others) and was just really turned off by our medical/maternity system in US hospitals. Not that I discredit or think down on anyone who wants to give birth in a hospital, but I'm a firm believer in the fact that women are designed to give birth, our bodies know how to give birth in many cases much better than doctors. I could really go on an on about it, but basically, I wanted to avoid the 'managed' birth that would inevitably happen in a hospital.
I'm with Danielle, I could not wait to get that magic epidural when we got to the hospital, it was a godsend! Liza, I give you a lot of credit for doing a home birth though - that's very impressive! And you look awesome!

Finally! A Married Bio!!
You look great! Pregnancy has been treating you well!
I applaud you for going the no medication route. I always thought I had a high tolerance for pain until I went into labor! It is really VERY painful. I had plans on getting an epidural and did after 15 hours of labor and only dilating 5 cm. My labor ended up lasting for 40 hours and I only got to 9 cm. At that point the baby was doing fine but my body was not doing well and not handling the long term labor. I had to have an emergency c-section. (A side note I had a very smooth and problem free pregnancy. I exercised up until a week before delivery and gained 23lbs. My baby was 8lbs. 2oz, a very healthy boy!)
Just curious, have you thought about how will you handle a situation like this or possibly a breech baby at home? Also, will the midwife have fetal monitors to keep a check on the baby and his heart rate? I always knew that I would have a hospital labor so I've always been curious how home births handle this stuff.
One thing fortunately is that our guy is not breech - his head is already down really low and behind my pelvis. He's just been spinning like a top so hopefully he'll stay in a non-posterior position for birth. But regardless, during labor and delivery baby will rotate and spin to get the best fit. My midwives (I have two and one or the other will be at the birth or if both are available they both will) have a doppler to monitor the heart rate and any necessary emergency resuscitation equipment in case there would be a problem after he's born. There's a lot of really good information out there about the safety of home births. For the majority of healthy women with healthy pregnancies there is no need for all the extra monitoring equipment during labor and delivery and in fact sometimes these things can prolong, disrupt or make labor more difficult for the woman.
Also with having an experienced midwife, they know how to recognize early on if there is a serious complication or problem and transfer to a hospital. My midwives are associated with St. Vincents hospital and if I would need to be transferred they have privileges so I would not be ditched at the door and left to doctors I don't know. If you are curious for more info, I can send you some books and websites to check out.
Majority rules here--you look fabulous Liza! So glad to here your baby is nice and low! I commend you also for being dedicated to a natural, home birth.
I'm almost six months and DH and I recently toured my hospital and I have mixed feelings of anxiety and peace that in case any thing goes wrong, I can receive urgent medical care quicker. But, I do agree with you that our bodies inherently know what to do in delivery and labor.
Can't wait to hear about your impending birth story, which looks could come any day now!
Glad to hear they have privileges at the hospital, sounds like you did your homework and will have a wonderful labor experience. I am too wimpy to go natural...if I have another one I will most likely wait until I am in labor and then have another c-section. I went through a lot in those 40 hours of labor and there is not need for me to go through it again.
Best of Luck to you! Boys are so much fun...the minute you see him you'll fall in love!
I usually frequent the 12-24 month board but figured I'd check out what the local women are up to...
A: You look amazing and I'm seriously jealous. I didn't look like that when I was ready to pop, that's for sure!
B: I went all natural with a midwife and my only regret is NOT doing it at home. I had a big bathtub at the hospital and it helped a lot with easing the pressure and weight of the baby. I really want a home birth the second time around. I hope it progresses exactly as planned. Good luck!
