Places to rent in Waterloo??

I feel like I have been searching for forever for a decent 2 bedroom apartment (or condo, or townhouse, or duplex...) in Waterloo! Where is the best place to look? I've googled my little heart out! Im looking for a 2 bedroom (or a large 1 bedroom) that will cost us around $1000 with utilities (poor PhD student and even poor-er sales associate!) and has to be close to the University of Waterloo and uptown Waterloo.

Thank you so much for any guidance, links, or help you can give me!

Re: Places to rent in Waterloo??

  • I used to live in the low rise buildings across from the Dairy queen / Philthy McNasty's on Westmount (in 2004-2005). It had underground parking (although I didn't have a car at the time) and they were student cheap. We (me and my 2 roomies) lived in a 3 bedroom though but I remember the price being reasonable. It was nice too, all things considered. Not open concept, but the kitchen was a good size. It was a little outdated.  you may want to check it out? sorry I have no idea the name, but if you're in the area you could read the For Rent signs around there.
  • Are you opposed to basement apartments? You may be able to find some in the homes that are nearby (not homes with the students in them but family homes).

I lived in the townhouses on Westmount (across from Dairy Queen and Philthy's) and they were nice but 4 bedrooms so I don't know if they have smaller one's.

Have you looked at the apartments on the corner of westmount and university?

Are you guys married? If so what about the Married Students apartments?

Have you checked out the condo's in Uptown Waterloo? There may be people who have bought them and are now renting them out.

  • Oh and I just sent you a PM. (on the far left of your screen scroll down to see Check Private Messages).
  • Check out hometrader.ca and the Rentals tab.  I did a search for $0-1000/month, 2+ bedrooms and a bunch of stuff around campus popped up!

I lived in some real dumps, so I'll not suggest anywhere I lived!  The only nice place was our last, out at Fischer-Hallman and Columbia, but it was a full house with 4 bedrooms.

    Good luck!

  • There are some brand new apartments on Columbia (between King and Philip). Also there is a building on Albert (between Philip and Columbia).
  • Both DH and my BFF rented apartments at the corner of Bearinger and Parkside (north of UW).  They were pretty decent.
  • There is an Off Campus housing office on Columbia. I don't know what services they offer but they could help.
