What do you think the result of the House vote will be today?

I am watching C-SPAN right now.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R) said that bill before us does not deal with the credit crisis.  Wants some practical solutions tried before pulling the trigger on the $700 billion bailout

Rep. Emanuel says that we need to deal with the standard of living of the middle class.  We need to figure out who created this fire and the arsonist needs to be put in jail

Rep. Inglis (R) is discussing whether it is better to bail out than to do nothing

Re. Kucinich (D) is up.  He is not for the bailout.

discussions are continuing. . .

They say final vote will happen shortly

on a petty note, Barney Frank looks like the most disshelved looking man ever!!!!

Re: What do you think the result of the House vote will be today?

  • If I were in the congress I would insist this bill require that Barney Frank and Chris Dodd give up their seats on their finance committees.

I would expect the House Republicans to vote no. But the Dems support this bill so it should pass. They have Bush's support. They don't need a single republican vote to get it passed.

ETA: I misspelled "no" as "now." wow.

  • I am not sure it is going to pass in its current form.  Reps on both sides are speaking against it, several want it to be looked at further.

Waxman (D) just said that "we are not going to get a new/better bill this year, but we can get a new bill next year. .. I will vote for this bill"

Yeah a new bill can be done but the billions of dollars that Paulson will get immed. cannot be taken back

  • No surprise on Kucinich.  I foolishly wasted time writing to his office, as well as my senators, asking for a reasoned and balanced approach to the bailout proposal, but he's up with the same old populist BS.

To be honest, I'm unreasonably annoyed at the "free riders" who I feel are voting against the bill while knowing it needs to pass but has enough votes without them. I'm sure there are more than a few of them.

  • Rep. Bachus (R) just gave an emotional speech and said he is willing to take the political risk but will not take a risk on the American people on their future. . . He received a large applause.  He will vote for it

  • I'm guessing it will pass overwhelmingly.
