jeebus buying organic is expensive
After staying with MIL for two weeks where she eats all organic all the time I have felt fantastic and have been losing weight and am not at all hungry. Since being home for two days, I have no energy and am always hungry. So I bought what she buys at the grocery store today. WOW it wasn't cheep. I know it will be worth it and we will be eating less but holy crap it was expensive.

Re: jeebus buying organic is expensive
Do you have a farmers market in the summer? It will be more affordable there.
When we buy organic produce from the grocery store we stick to the dirty dozen. It is just too costly to do it for all produce.
Sammy that is really interesting to hear, was there any other diet change at your MILs? I think I'm addicted to carbs and I need to quit them cold turkey but I just can't, argh.
Thanks for the link Jen, really good to know. I don't typically buy the organic unless they are almost the same price but it's good to know the real culprits (apples is a big one for us, we eat apples every day)
Well MIL is an amazing cook so that helped us eat well. It;s funny though, she sees a nutritionist regularly and their meals follow a common thread. There is always a large salad. USually it's just a mixed greens salad with a little green onion and some form of oil dressing. There is a protein and there is a carb and they try to keep things low sodium and only use sea salt.
The idea is that you have carbs for that instant huger gratification you don't even need a lot just something. Try to stay away from white potatos or white rice ( I don't know why). The salad fills you up but doesn't have staying power at all but gives you that full feeling while having no fat and few calories, and the protein keeps you going.
Not only does keeping things low sodium make things easier on your heart but it stops you from being dehydrated. Alot of people think they are hungry when they are actually thirsty.
For breakfast we had yogurt and granola or toast with vache qui rit and jam on it. So instead of salad for breakfast we had fruit. It's amazing how well it worked. While we were there mom and I only had one snack a day. That snack was at around 4pm and it's understandable because we were working 11 hour days and well you get the need for a sugar rush. We would share one Timmies cookie and be fine.
Last night for supper I followed the rule and neither DH nor I felt the need for a snack later in the evening. Let's hope this works and I can keep it up!
