Ironing question

I was just checking out my local board and they were talking about ironing.  A LOT of them say they don't iron ever.  I'm not active there so I wanted to ask you ladies.  I iron every single day.  How is it possible to not?  Do they get everything dry cleaned?  What do you do?

Re: Ironing question

  • I iron very rarely.  Typically I try to steam while I'm in the shower, or I spray some downy anti-wrinkle stuff on the garment and throw it in the dryer for 15 minutes and the wrinkles are gone!

  • maybe i'm buying the wrong kind of pants...  every Sunday I do all the ironing for the week!

I also rarely iron. I'm a huge fan of the downy spray. You can spray it on and smooth the wrinkles out the night before. It's ironing for lazy ppl :)
  • I never iron. Embarrassed

I don't know... I hang up all of my clothes. I work at a construction company and wear jeans everyday to work, so that could be one reason. DH wears khaki pants & polo shirts usually for work, and he hangs up his clothes also... he never looks wrinkled, so... I don't need to?

  • I also never iron. The iron and I are not friends- I probably iron more wrinkles into the clothes than there were in the first place! Although when DH was wearing suits to work I did steam all of his work clothes, but that uses the steamer we got as a wedding gift.

  • I iron as little as I have to.  DH irons every single day.  He'll even iron his jeans.
  • I'm not a big ironer either.  I normally wear slacks from express.  They will be wrinkle free once I throw them in the dryer while I'm in the shower.  If I wear a button up shirt (which is rare) then I would iron it.  I do have a few dresses that need to be ironed.  My typical work outfit is editor's from express w/ a cardigan sweater.  So not much ironing needed in my home.
  • The last time I ironed we were making our luggage tags to send to our DW guests *sigh*.

I too do more damage than good when the iron and I meet.  Just glancing down at my hand, I can see 2 burns where the iron did indeed win.

  • I iron like once every 2 months. And I do wear a suit usually a couple times a month and business casual most other days. Usually hanging clothes right out of the dryer or hanging them in the bathroom as I take a hot shower is good enough for me!
  • Ooooh...ironing - I love it!  Yes, I know that is kind of weird :)  I hang dry the majority of my clothes (to extend their life and save on drycleaning) so they often need a little heat and steam to perk back up.  I'm also a big fan of creases in my dressy/work pants so an iron is a must.  I do a big ironing session once a week and knock it all out while catching up on my DVR.  I love being able to chose an outfit from my closet in the morning that is all ready to go.  I'm an ironing addict!

DH is a big ironer too.  He even irons his gym clothes!  But he hangs everything in his closet all wrinkled and then irons them right before he is going to wear them.

  • Gosh, I don't really iron!!  I brought out the iron & ironing board around Thanksgiving to iron my tablecloth....that's the last time I've even seen it.  And YES, anything that needs ironed I pretty much take to the cleaners...one of the perks of having a Dry Cleaner as a customer=DISCOUNT!!

HAHAHAHA!  This!  I never iron.  I just throw my clothes in the dryer while I shower and no wrinkles.  I pretty much live in jeans too.

  • I only iron when absolutely necessary.  Probably once a week or so, I will do one shirt.  I send all my work pants to the drycleaners and sometimes will send my button down shirts and sweaters as well.  For my casual, weekend clothes, I just throw them in the dryer to de-wrinkle.
  • I never iron...never! I think last time I used and iron was for go to my interview and I've been working here for 5 years.

I usually buy clothes that don't require much ironing, and i hang my clothes right out of the dryer, so they don't get too bad. We do have a steamer that I got for the wedding and I've used it probably twice and DH likes it for his suit and nice clothes.

I'm also a firm believer that the clothes will stretch and loose the wrinkles by the time I get to where I'm going Smile

  • I also NEVER iron. I think I have two shirts that might need it and I avoid wearing them LOL! I fold/hang my clothes right out of the dryer and try to buy wrinkle free or fabrics that just don't wrinkle easily. Or like pp said put them on and by the time I leave it looks good enough!

ETA: Excuse my "pp" - like Normalied said! I forgot who it was as I was typing my reply LOL! Embarrassed

  • I don't even own an iron.  My "ironing" is shoving my outfit back in the dryer for 5-10 minutes.
