F/U to gyno poll

A few weeks ago, i was talking to couple of my girlfriends (black) and they were very firm in NOT having a black male gyno....and these girls are very different but they had the same views and neither one of them was able to explain their feelings...any thoughts?
btw: male/female gyno works for me.

Re: F/U to gyno poll

  • I hear this alot too.

I think that the comfortable with a women, but not a male comes from women being taught "it's our special place"  LOL  I know it's strange but I think that's where it comes from.

The NO black male gyno thing... not sure about that one.  Out of all people "we" should be more understanding and receptive to them being in any industry.

Though I have a friend, who is a black male, that is a preschool teacher and gets parents who are concerned with him working with their children.   Even after they are told he has a degree in early childhood.  So maybe it's a stigma with them in certain industries.

  • I don't know. On one hand I say, it's one thing to not want a male gyno but not a black male? I think there's something wrong with that and it's discrimintory. But on the other hand someone could say I was discriminating against all males since I prefer a female gyno.

There's definetly a stigma about black males working in certain industries. Some people just can't wrap their heads around it even if they have the best credentials, and that's pretty sad.

I always get stories from dh about the surprising looks he gets when he walks into a patients room, both black and white.

  • It really doesn't matter to me what color they are as long as they speak fluent ENGLISH!!! Nothing annoys me more then a Dr. I can't understand or who doesn't understand me.

    Peace
  • LOL Yes I had to go to urgent care and could not understand the nurse for the life of me!  Thank God the doctor didn't have an accent!
  • my dentist is great but it annoys that i have no idea what he is saying- i can't ask him no questions, understand his feedback...but somehow how relationship keeps my teeth coming back to him
