I need a lifejacket!

Because I'm drowning....

My Dr was shocked this morning by how much fluid I'm retaining. My 6 lbs that I've gained the whole pg, changed to 15...9 lbs since 2 weeks ago. I am to stay off my feet by my own accord or she said she'll put me on bedrest. Thankfully my BP is good, low actually, so toxemia isn't a concern right now. I'm supposed to check in before my appt in 2 weeks but my hands and feet are throbbing--not painfully, just as in discomfort. Bah. I'm not one for asking people to do things for me.

Isn't there a fluid pill I can take? I forgot to ask her. I was like "What do I do?" because the usual responses you'd get would be Tylenol and water. Obviously, water is not the best idea. Well, she said water when I'm up and walking around....but I'm supposed to stay off my feet so that's a catch 22. lol. Then I thought of taking a fluid pill after I left. Good idea, yay or nay?

Re: I need a lifejacket!

  • I think they have natural diuretic pills but I'm really not sure.  Maybe hit up Target and ask the pharmacist.  Or perhaps Whole Foods would have something.  Glad to hear that at least your bp isn't high!

  • Don't you hate the Tylenol answer? That stuff is good for nothing. I don't know if taking a diuretic pill is the best idea. Can you call the OBs office tomorrow?
  • I don't think I'd take anything without it being approved first. I would start by just staying off your feet and try avoiding sodium too, that can cause fluid retention. I am glad to hear your bp is fine, that's good news. Call the doc in the morning to ask for tips, and keep us updated.

  • Don't listen to me.  Cissy's right.  A quick google search brought up several links that talked about how diuretics are not safe during pregnancy.  I couldn't find one reputable enough to link here but you should definitely call your OB and see what they recommend.  Which I'm sure you already planned to do.  =)

  • yeah, definitely don't take a diuretic w/o talking to your OB first.

I know how you feel, girlie.  Swelling isn't too swell :(  Lucky for me I was pregnant during the summer (most hot miserable time to ever be pregnant, I tell ya!!) so I could just wear flip flops, my feet were so swollen!
