NER: Another winner from What's Cooking

Root Beer Pork.

What is up with that board and their love of soda in food?!!!? Do they not know the word diabetus?

Re: NER: Another winner from What's Cooking

  • LOL! I like to cook with alcohol (wine, bourbon, rum) but I don't think I've ever made anything with soda. I guess root beer does have a very distinct flavor.

    I am the 99%.
  • Yeah, I don't even drink soda. W(hy)TF would I want to cook with it?

  • In Palin words, it makes me ill thinking about cooking with soda.
  • I'll reserve judgment, though I'm skeptical... my grandma used to make a ham that was cooked in coke that was absolutely delicious.
  • imagemajorwife:
If you want the root beer flavor, can't you just use the root beer root or whatever root beer is made of?  Not something that is 95% sugar and water?

    Word.

  • I like coke zero cake; sprite zero cake wasn't as good.

lol!! I guess I could see using real root beer. But I'm thinking that crowd is going for the A&W complete with HFCS, artificial color and flavors.?

  • By the way, I'm totally giggling over "diabeetus."  Now all I see is Wilford Brimley or the diabeetus cat.

  • No way man, you're all wrong!

You want to try the most tender, flavorful ribs ever? Parboil them in water and rootbeer (50/50) and then finsh on the grill with sauce. Seriously, it's to DIE for. We did this for our BBQ every week when I worked on the cruise ship.

Lol. I can't think of the word any other way. By the way, diabetus cat on E08 is the one who thought Bill Clinton was never impeached.

  • I've had the ribs par boiled in sprite and that's pretty yummy. The meat is really, really tender.

  • "Billy likes to drink soda" (name that movie)

I can't see myself ever trying any recipes with soda, because when I decide to cook or bake something, I really want to put out effort, ya know? That just seems midway in the laziness scale, and I'm either all the way lazy or not lazy at all.

  • Coca-Cola ham is so darn good!
  • I make a roast in the crockpot with a can of coke. The soda just helps break down the meat and then is in the gravy. It's not gross, it's good!

But it might give you diabeetus. Sad
