shopping depresses me

I went to Kohls today and tried on that dress from yesterday.  And also a million other dresses from yesterday--including that blue one I also liked that Kendra posted.  The Lauren Conrad dress in the smallest size went down to my knees (no need to worry about being too short!) and was also just too big in general.  The belt was loose on my waist.  Same thing with the blue dress.  And all the others.

This was the only dress in the women's that I liked that actually fit me--in an xs.  I just didn't know where/when I'd wear it. http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/dresses/viewalldresses/PRD~591933/ELLE+Floral+Ruffled+Dress.jsp

So I then went over to the juniors section where stuff actually fits me--but everything there is just so..."young" looking, if that makes sense.  I'm 26 years old; I want to dress 26 years old.

Where can I find more adult looking clothes to fit me?  I can sometimes fit into things from Express.  I've tried Anne Taylor--stuff there is usually too big.

This is all bringing back memories from high school where I had to go to 20 different stores just to find a prom dress to fit me, haha.  :-)

Re: shopping depresses me

  • what about macys petite section?
  • i have a similar problem.  It may fit my knockers but not my hips or my hips but not my knockers.  And dammit, guess what?!  I do have a effing waist!!

Try nordstroms?  White House Black Market usually runs small if I remember correctly.

  • I totally know what you mean!!! I have the same problem.

I don't have much luck in the Kohls women's department. I have some luck in the Petites though. For me the juniors department is only good for jeans and the occasional t-shirt.

Try hitting some of the department stores and stick to the petites section - I find the womens section generally too big even in the XS/S sizes.

Old Navy can be a good place too because they have more "grown up" looking clothes.

I don't know if you have one - but H&M might be another good store to try, some of their clothes are kind of young/slutty looking but some of them can be really cute and age appropriate

I also tend to buy the same shirt (or whatever) in multiple colors because its so hard to find stuff that fits right and doesn't make me look like a teenage ho-bag that I'll stock up on all the things that do fit in all the colors it comes in haha

  • I was just going to say H&M. Affordable and trendy cool but totally made for smaller frames. Or maybe you could locate a local, inexpensive seamstress who could help you. Since you have SUCH a great bod and you work so hard for it, you deserve to have clothes that look great on you! Good luck girl! Don't get discouraged.

  • Contemporary designers are going to fit you better than a missy designer in the women's department.  Contemporary lines tend to run smaller and straighter whereas a missy line will be cut a little bigger.  Finding a tailor you like will also be helpful.  Sometimes taking in the waist or shortening the hem or straps to get the darts and/or waist into the right place can make a huge difference.

I totally agree about the Junior's department.  You don't need to be dressing like a teenager at 26.

Sorry you're having a hard time!
