I met MIL for coffee today, just to catch up, and toward the end she handed me an envelope and said that she and FIL wanted to help us buy the extra little things that we still need for the babies, since they know it's expensive to get a nursery set up (especially with two on the way). MIL has been super excited about these babies and has already bought them quite a few clothes, so I was surprised but grateful - I glanced in the envelope and saw cash, and thanked her a great deal.
Of course, I didn't count it out at the table or anything, so I didn't realize until I got home how much money she'd given me: $500! I couldn't believe it! I thought it was like $100 and I'd have been super grateful for that!
Aside from some clothes and knick knacks, we're paying for everything ourselves (I know that in some families the grandparents buy furniture etc. but that's not how it works in either of ours), so this is a huuuuge help toward getting everything else we need. My baby spreadsheet has an estimate of about another $1k in projected costs, so this will pay for a great big chunk of that.
I'm doing some shopping this weekend. ![]()

wow! that is awesome! I'm sure you will make that go a long ways in outfitting the nursery!
I love unexpected gifts. I got a flat tire the other day so my grandpa came to get my car to take it to the tire place to get a new one (I was due - but planned to put it off until I returned to work) - he brought it back with FOUR new tires... I am totally grateful.
That's awesome Lisa! I know I was hugely relieved when my dad gifted up the crib/mattress (remember my posts back in December)...even though right now Libby only naps in her crib, it has attached drawers that we're using for all of her clothes and changing station on top.
It's wonderful how generous friends and family can be when a LO or TWO are on the way!
