I may have convinced Greg to let me make my own cake (my birthday's next Saturday). I originally was hellbent on making a layer cake since I'm trying to get it right (they're always lopsided or uneven, etc.) But I LOVE cupcakes. And have wanted to make about 3 different kinds for MONTHS and just never did.[Poll]

This is a great idea. Or you can send the cupcakes to ABQ.

I don't really like either (I KNOW I'm a FREAK) but I prefer cupcakes because they are little perfect single serving dishes and you can make as few or as much as you want and they shouldn't go to waste since you know how many you guys will eat.
I heard some people in MA like cupcakes too
Jo, I will HAPPILY bake you some cupcakes while I'm there.
Here are my reasons not to make both:
--One or the other will produce MORE than enough for Greg & I, which ample leftovers to send to work with Greg or take myself.
--I don't have the time to do both. This weekend I'm painting (hopefully I'll be able to pound out both the bathroom & accent wall - don't have much hope I'll be able to!) and then I'd have to bake just about every.night.next week to kick out both cupcakes & a layer cake.
--I am off March 17-19, BUT we'll be working finishing up house stuff (finish packing, hanging pictures, finishing touches, or possibly painting the spare room.) Oh, and making a bunch of food for Saturday, when we're having an Open House (which will also require a dessert of some kind... I'll probably resort to the fastest cupcakes possible, but not the ones I want to make like Chocolate Chocolate-Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes, Guiness Cupcakes with Whiskey Ganache & Baileys Buttercream, or Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffle Cupcakes. That kind of "fun" stuff takes a lot of time.
)
See my dilemma? I want to do something fun since that is doubly for me on my birthday, but I have a list of about 20 options I want to do. LOL
people (me) in RI like any kind of cake - big or small
I think you should make whatever you want - I've been baking like crazy, I don't even make up excuses any more, I just bake.
